[2/26/15] Draught at Upright Brewing in Portland. Dark amber-brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of caramel, wood, dark fruits and some alcohol. Sweet flavor, caramelly, with dark fruits, lots of wood, a licorice hint, a chocolate hint and a boozy finish. Medium to full-bodied.

deep caramel brown pour, off white head. Man this is good. Rich caramel and toffee, whiskey, rich vanilla, oak, brown sugar. Hints of hops but this beer is smooth and really nice to drink.

750mL bottle sample courtesy of dak, thanks. It pours with a murky deep amber body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up smooth notes of spicy oak, subtle booze, some pine hops and then various mild sweet molasses to malt notes. The taste is very much like the Bull Rush version but this barrel treatment has rounded out and smoothed over the whole experience. I get smooth sweet molasses and malts blending with pine hops and spicy oak. In the background murmurs some soft booze notes. This version also seems like a little richer and deeper experience. Nice! Age has done this wonders.

Bottle #84/114 This baby is dark, pruney with a near quilt of amber suds. smells boozey, some oak, alcohol, vitamins, and some medicinal character with lots of sweet caramel malts and sugary booze. Flavor is alcohol, calcium and vitamin C flavors, some candied sugars, some oak and extremely toasted malts. Medium on full bodied with a moderate carb and off dry finish. Okay beer, bet it would have been better suited with a few months more in the bottle.

750mL thanks to brainlair. Pours a full haze deep red. Excellent foam, great lace for style. Nose is bright raspberry, bright sour raspberry, vanilla, raisins, chocolate cake. Taste is tart up front, woody, dusty, black pepper tannic, sweet tootsie roll. Feels sharp and over oaked. Not nearly as good as the other versions but the aroma is phenomenal. Loved by everyone at our tasting. I wish more people rated so that others who liked it more than me would speak up. As they say in Nepal, Kay Garnay. What can you do.

Bottle shared by deyholla. Pours super deep amber w an off white head that dissipates and leaves spotty lacing. Nose is rich maple and booze, brown sugar. Taste has the same maple brown sugar and boozy heat. A lot to handle but very enjoyable sipper

Bottle thanks to GT2! Pours a near clear dark brown with a yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains and caramel with backing whiskey and toffee. Flavor starts with sweet grains and toffee with a growing boozy finish with some caramel.

Bottle, many thanks to Colin! It pours murky dark mahogany brown with a thick tan head. The nose is wood, vanilla, toffee, caramel, earth, toasted coconut, dark fruit, bruised plums and brown sugar. The taste is roasted malt, toffee, earth, brown sugar, raisin, date, chocolate, wood, caramel and light spice with a warming, roasty finish. Full body, moderate+ carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Smooth, warming and good depth of flavour. Another great offering from Upright.

This is a pleasant brew. I don’t think the barrel dominates, it is mostly caramel malts.
