3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This baby is dark, pruney with a near quilt of amber suds. smells boozey, some oak, alcohol, vitamins, and some medicinal character with lots of sweet caramel malts and sugary booze. Flavor is alcohol, calcium and vitamin C flavors, some candied sugars, some oak and extremely toasted malts. Medium on full bodied with a moderate carb and off dry finish. Okay beer, bet it would have been better suited with a few months more in the bottle.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL thanks to brainlair. Pours a full haze deep red. Excellent foam, great lace for style. Nose is bright raspberry, bright sour raspberry, vanilla, raisins, chocolate cake. Taste is tart up front, woody, dusty, black pepper tannic, sweet tootsie roll. Feels sharp and over oaked. Not nearly as good as the other versions but the aroma is phenomenal. Loved by everyone at our tasting. I wish more people rated so that others who liked it more than me would speak up. As they say in Nepal, Kay Garnay. What can you do.

Bottle thanks to GT2! Pours a near clear dark brown with a yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grains and caramel with backing whiskey and toffee. Flavor starts with sweet grains and toffee with a growing boozy finish with some caramel.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, many thanks to Colin! It pours murky dark mahogany brown with a thick tan head. The nose is wood, vanilla, toffee, caramel, earth, toasted coconut, dark fruit, bruised plums and brown sugar. The taste is roasted malt, toffee, earth, brown sugar, raisin, date, chocolate, wood, caramel and light spice with a warming, roasty finish. Full body, moderate+ carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Smooth, warming and good depth of flavour. Another great offering from Upright.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a pleasant brew. I don’t think the barrel dominates, it is mostly caramel malts.

Craft Clerkenwell Tasting. Thanks to our Colin. Almost clear, deep red- amber beer. Good pale tan head. Palate is slightly soft and a little dry. Nice light vanilla wood. Medium bourbon, not too strong. Mild tangy fruits underneath. Softish and semi dry finish. Nice light BA Barleywine.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours hazy brown with mahogany highlights and a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. The nose is a simple, but blessed marriage of caramel and alcohol. Full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. The flavor is a lightly sweet swirl of caramel and vanilla, accompanied quite nicely by earthy, woody hop bitterness. Caramel, vanilla, and bourbon warmth linger in the finish. Thanks so much to landhoney for sharing this gem!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle split at Craft Clerko, acquired from the brewery, 26/06/13. #79/114.
Dark chestnut brown with a good sized tan head.
Nose is dark fruits, bourbon, woody notes, dark toffee fudge, trace of booze.
Taste comprises dark fruits, stewed prunes, dates steeped in a bourbon broth, oaky, light booze, demerara sugars.
Full bodied with fine carbonation, boozey finale with a little heat.
A most decent barley wine. The booze is a litte too prominent at times when compared to some BW’s with a higher ABV, but still good tackle.
