COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blend Edmunds, a very small batch mix of several barrel aged beers, will see limited release throughout winter, mostly at the brewery tasting room. The components include Six aged with brettanomyces, Six aged on dark sweet cherries, a cask of boysenberry Four and a cask of two year old raspberry Six. The finished beer shows plenty of depth with a core of oak and fruit. Acidity is restrained and the Blend Edmunds is a great tart beverage for those who find other sours overwhelming or sharp. Of course, this one is part of Upright’s ongoing tribute series and dedicated to Breakside Brewmaster Ben Edmunds.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2014 750 mL bottle supplied by acurtis - many thanks! Consumed with a chicken meal. Read #72 out of 124, on backside of label. To oversized brandy snifter, it pours a mauve violet-tinted, rusty umber-red, with which an off-white ringed head half a finger in length stood. Aromas of raspberry concentrate, sour cherry vinegar, farmhouse yeast, spelt malt, flaked rye, Scottish oatcakes, dried apricot, Virgil’s Peach Lemonade, anardana, clementine zest, oak, onion roots, wet newspaper, lavender, rooibos tea, bay leaves, and unripe blueberries. Tastes the same with the addition of golden blossom honey, funk, spent grain, and limeade. Yeast, stale pineapple, cotton, and a pleasurable growing warmth experienced by swallow. Ridiculously fruity-tart and acidic. Intense. Had the mouthfeel of a gueuze but the ferociousness of an American sour. More Upright, please??

Reddish brown pour, light beige head. Flavors of cherries, berries, vinegar, nice sour flavor but so fruity and juicy. Love this brewery.

Bottle, shared by Alan at tasting, pours cranberry, with light beige head, notes of buttery oak, lactic funk, tart cherry, framboise, cheesecake, and barn. Acidic sour cherry finish. Light mouthfeel with active carbonation. Excellent sour blend from Upright.

Thanks to GT for sharing. Reddish brown pour with a lot of haze and an off-white head. Strong fruit aroma to this. Cherry, blackberry, and raspberry. A touch of cheese, some red wine vinegar, grass, and lemon. Notes of oak and green apple, as well. The flavor has a really nice fruit sweetness to it. Lots of blackberry and raspberry notes with some cherry. Oak, red wine vinegar, and lemon zest.

750mL #52 of 124 bottles. Thanks to a trade on BA. The pour is murky brown with thick, pinkish tan foam that has ridiculous webby and sticky lacing for style. The nose is bright raspberry, cranberry, blackberry...juicy and fresh. Taste at first is dusty cocoa, big lactic lime and cranberry. Palate is clean, lactic, salty with bright lime and grapefruit. Buoyant feeling. I would expect nothing less from these guys.

On draught at Breakside’s 3rd Anniversary Party. Dark deep red. Aroma of pitted fruit and sourness. Lambic base flavor, with cherry and berry notes. Nice prickly finish.

Draft at 16 Tons, Eugene. Pours an opaque reddish brown. Minimal head. Raspberries are huge in aroma, a little bit of yeast in there as well. Very lively body, finish is the best part, really fantastic. Barrels, rye, surprisingly long lasting, especially for the style. Not overly tart, but enough there to keep things going. Well-balanced, a superb beer.

750mL bottle from the brewery A: Dark cider color without any lacing. Pours like lightly carbonated juice. Upright needs to work on presentation a bit, methinks. N: Nose is dominated by cherry and there are hints of raspberry. Grapefruit sourness. Grassiness and some oak. Candied ginger and clementine oranges. T: Light cherry, grapefruit, and hints of raspberry. There’s a balanced acidity and a good blend of sweetness. Vinegar and horse blanket. Vinous grape. M: Nicely carbonated. Medium light mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. O: This is one of the best sours to come out of Upright. Balanced with a nice touch of fruit. Drink fresh, I’m thinking.

Consumed at Triple Rock Sour Beer Sunday. Pours dark brown with a modest beige head and a sour fruit aroma. There is a very sour dark fruit and treacle flavor with a dry finish. A typical (good) Upright brew.

Tap @ Roscoes... Poured deep, cloudy reddish with a thin, gray head. Nose had some tartness with ripe fruits. Nice acidity with a good amount of fruit juice and oak for balancing. Not too sweet with some funk but mostly tartness in there. Cherries, raspberries, strawberries were the fruit that came through here. Nice yeast tones too.
