COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cuvee Lactovasilios is a two cask blend made from a Berliner weisse style wort. The brew was fermented directly in several barrels, but this small batch version was done in the ones that previously held the Fantasia, our annual limbic-esque peach beer, and later a round of Five. The fruit originally in the barrel stayed the entire time, becoming a habitat for different yeasts and bacteria, some pitched by us and others coming from the orchard. The fruit also retained some of the Five, which lends this Cuvee a very slight bitterness and hint of saison character. Coupled with the mixed yeast and bacteria barrel fermentation, the finished beer even takes on some Geuze-like qualities and while ready now will certainly mature well for several years.

Bottle. Pours cloudy yellow gold with quickly dissipating white head. Nose and taste of tart lemon, banana, wheat malt, light soured citrus, lactose, saison yeast and light peach breads. Body is on the lighter side of medium. Refreshing.

Bottle: 33/151. Semi-clear, golden body with a foamy, eggshell cap topping it off, quickly receding to a chunky collar. Aroma comprised of faint musty blanket, overripe peach skins, a bit of soured wheat, light oaky tannins, some moderate lactic notes & a good amount of tart stone fruits finishing things off. You get a big woody & oaky flavor right out of the gate, but itís largely mellow & not astringent or harsh at all. Lots of lactic tartness, grainy & soured wheat, mineral notes, lemon flesh, stone fruits, & a bit of barnyard, cottony must towards the finish with a lingering bit of wild bacteria sourness, dryness, & funk. Crisp, refreshing, & dry. Overall, this makes for a very unique "Berliner". Extremely crushable, easy drinking, & flavorful. Too bad my homebrews have higher bottle counts.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light citrus with a touch of fruit and must. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a small white head that quickly fades to a thin ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of citrus. There is a hint of fruit in the middle. The finish light lemon, funk, and a touch of must. Itís light bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, super refreshing and drinkable. Too bad Iíll never see it again.

On tap at the Drake Eatery, Victoria. Light amber, white head. Nose is blue cheese, tropical fruit. Flavour is that great sharp fruity hop sensation followed by dryness you get in the style. Peachy. Had it with a Taiwanese exchange student and it was the only one of the night they liked.

Headless with a cloudy deep orange body. Nose is tart and highly metallic ; smells like light machine oil on a burnt electrical engine on a miniature race track. Watery tart fruit mixed with lemon ice tea. Interesting. On draught at the Moon Under Water.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 3.7% ABV
Cloudy golden color with compact head. The aroma is creamy, biscuity, lightly sour, vaguely vinous and a bit footy; very interesting. Light and dry body; mild flavor, but with moderate lactic acid, fresh, with a light fruity note. Almost no bitterness.
Pleasant beer.

On tap at PIB, pours cloudy faded yellow with a small white head. Nose brings out some toasted oak, citrus and wheat. Flavour is a tad woody, with some gin notes, citrus and wheat. Pretty dry and light on the tartness for the style. I prefer the non-BA Lactovasilius, but this is still nice.

Sharply sour and buttery nose with a bit of ripe cheese. Taste is moderately sour, and lightly sweet with lots of lemon juice and honeysuckle. Decent.

Trransparent gold, puffy white head that falls off quick. Sticky nose of vanilla, light lemon, not enough grain or lactic balance though light scents of milky grain with warmth. Some pedio kicks up with stirs. Light flavor, slight mineral, milky dough front and mid, lemon throughout, more grain and gravel in finish with toast lasting long. Nose needs more balance, softest Berliner flavor Iíve ever tried.

Bottle shared by GT. The beer is golden hued with almost no head. The aroma offers some funk, tart fruit, citrus, a touch of wheat. The flavor is decent. Earthy with a touch of lemon. A hint of sweetness with a smooth and easy finish. Light and refreshing. Overall, this was pretty good.

Bottle courtesy of GT2, thanks for making sure I got some of this! Poured a slightly hazy yellow-orange color. Light, slightly tart, citrus notes, in the aroma. Flavor is tart, slightly funk notes. Not bad at all! Really liked this one.
