COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bend of French style Biere de Garde and English style Old Ale, Provision has a profile reminiscent of several historic brews but remains distinct onto itself. The Biere de Garde portion was openly fermented with the brewery’s house lager yeast at 60 F, producing a full, malty base that maintained a crisp finish. That was blended post fermentation with the old ale, then put back into the cask for over one year where it gained a bit of acidity and aged flavors that give the Provision a layered depth that’s fun to pick apart. Inspired by the great Liefmans Goudenband, the Provision will cellar well like the classic from Oudenaarde.

Bottle # 98/116 thanks to Seth. Cloudy brown ale with an off white head. Wet wood aromas. Sour, but not over acidic. More vinegar and sour cherry with vanilla and smooth woody under currents. Very nice mouthfeel with good balance and carbonation..

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, simply as Upright Bičre de Garde
Muddy deep blond color with creamy and persistent head. Light wheat aroma, light spices, very light lemony touch. Dry and smooth mouthfeel; there is some wheat and spices touch, and quite strong bitternesss.
Can’t understand why Bičre de Garde; in any case, it’s a very average beer.

On tap at Urban Family Public House, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma of farmhouse esters, bready notes and smells very traditionally biere de garde like. Flavour of toasted spiced bread, farmhouse notes, and some light fruity notes. Thorough body, but light and easily drinkable. Solid stuff.

12 ounce sample at Pine Box in Seattle. Listed as Upright Biere de Garde and 7.7% ABV. The aroma on this is mild, with light fruity yeast esters present. Scant barnyard character--really faint, though. Lightly metallic and delicate. Modestly hazy honey-colored body with a medium, strong, white creamy head. Starts quite musty and minerally. Light cheesiness and some wheat character follow. More mineral flavors come through at the end, along with a little metallic flavor. Ethanol is hidden extremely well. Super drinkable!

Bottle 61/62 shared by Puddintane at Muckfest III...thanks Dave! - Pours copper with a foamy tan head. Nose is orange marmalade and light, yeasty bread. Vanilla notes. Taste is light cherries, light bread, mellow oak, a touch of yeast, and orange peel. Smooth and well-carbonated. Interesting and pretty mellow. Liked this one, but didn’t love it.

Bottle shared at MuckFest 3 - Friday evening addition. Not sure if this is in the database. Pours a nicer deep copper pour, gentle glow, fiery edges and deeper hued body. Frothy tannish head sits atop as a mellow ring, laces small. Aromas are a bit sticky sweet, caramel and tropical fruit, touch of grapefruit, gentle brett, oak, and touches of wine, gentle bitter tannins and richer fruit element. Touches of cheese, funk, gentle yeasty life. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, with firm funky yeast, touch of cheese, carmelization richer tropical and sweeter fruit element. A bit carmelized, funky. Not bad.

Tap @ Taphouse Grill, Seattle. Clear gold with a tiny white head. Aroma spicy esters, cheese and perfume. Flavor is fruity apricot, lightly tart and cereal grain. Light body with active carbonation. An alright beer, not my favorite style, odd aroma but tastes pretty good.

Golden with a couple fingers white head. Smell is like a triple, slight straw. Taste is wet, grain, earthy, interesting finish. Good.

Sampled at WtWBA Brooklyn 2012. Pours a cloudy amber body with thin off white lacing. Aroma and flavor consist of sour fruit, oak, and funk. Surprised?
