COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This bottling represents the first time Upright has ever barrel aged the Five. It never struck me as a great candidate for maturation in oak, but after draining the Fantasia barrels it seemed like a good fit to refill them. The aromatics on the Five, both fermentation and hop-based, have pale stone fruit nuances that I knew would work well on top of the otherwise spent peaches still in the barrels. It was a bit of a trial, and only two casks were filled. After several months, the beer started tasting just like I had hoped, so the two were blended and either kegged or bottled for this Sole Composition release.

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by hoppypocket, thanks David! Hazy golden/orange with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is super juicy with peaches, apricots, nice rustic presence, gentle tartness and subtle barrel notes. Taste is also quite juicy with peach, apricots, rustic notes, nice tartness, barrel notes and moderate bitterness. Light to medium body, but definitely not watery. Soft carbonation. Moderately dry finish. This aroma is impressive and the beer is really tasty while being super easy to drink. Itís hard to believe that the base beer is Upright Five, which was good, but certainly not great. Superb balance! Glad I still have a bottle of this, thanks to Thomas!

In short: A rustic dry Saison of superior quality. A thirst beer of great complexity.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed with many months of age, bottle from julian, thanks a lot Julian (I still can get over how clever your userid is). Bottle label was Barrel-Aged Five which is an alias to Saison du Blodget.
The look: Cloudy shinning blonde-orange body topped by a persistent small white head leaving some lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose has a nice rustic character, a bouquet of flowers, tart citrus fruits. A bright and clean aroma with no real sign of barrel aging. Pleasant mouthfeel with a medium-full body, slightly chewy and with plenty of tiny bubbles. Taste is sundried hay, semi-dried peaches, lemon zest, flower petals, nectarines, dried straw, dried countryside flowers, apricots. Overall the taste is pleasantly tart, the beer is also very dry with (dusty bretty dryness) and it is also a bit astringent (some tannins at work here). This is a rustic Saison with a drinkability that is only matched by its complexity, a truly kickass beer for the rustic Saison lover. Words can hardly express the pain I feel over the loss of my only bottle of Saison du Blodget, may its filtration and rest in my bladder be as enjoyable

750mL split with GT2 after a mega bike ride. Pours chill hazed orange, lower foam. Nose is explosive funk, bright complex yeast blend, lemon/lime, saltwater taffy, toffee, spiced apple pie. Taste is really refreshing, bright, super light bodied, apple juice, apple pie, raw dough, pie crust. Clean and simple flavor. Quenching. Perfect saison for post workout.

Pour is deep golden amber with a tight white head. Nose has a great oak presence, huge bright peach, and notes of dusty brett. Taste is even brighter, fruits are huge, tropical fruits with a good bit of peach, brett is quite clean and citrusy with notes of leather and dust. Carbonation is strong, body is very delicate and soft. Flavors are extremely juicy and bright.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2014 A fun to drink saison, with some tartness. Not too much oak character. Good drinkability. Pepper aroma. High carbonation. Had ut again a few months later just as good, more tartness.

Bottle shared at the 5k/7k/11k. Really enjoyed this one. Aroma of peach skin, barnyard funk, and some rubber. Pours hazy wheat colored with a nice medium head. Taste is band-aid funk, peaches, oak, and wheat. Nice peppery mouthfeel. Light, dry, and wonderful.

Lightly hazy golden body, medium to thin white head, spotty lacing. Nose shows apricot, citrus, funk, must, oak and peach. Flavor is flatter and less dynamic. Medium body thins out a bit in the finish, light acidity.

750 ml bottle. Pours clear gold with white head that dissipates in short order. Aroma: bubble gum, pineapple, lemon zest, floor cleaner, and a tannic note that I assume is due to the oak; a little vinous. Taste: Lightly sweet, a little fruity funkiness, and a slightly bitter hop bite to the finish. My wife gave up after about 6 oz with complaints of it being "chemically, like floor cleaner." Iím inclined to agree that the combination of the citrus, tannin and (light) funk makes it feel surprisingly synthetic in my mouth, which is more likely due to my own associations than it is with the brew, but hey, we rate hedonistically here, right? Light body, soft carbonation, slick texture. Overall: this is surely a saison, rather than a sour -- I know the lines blur a bit, and Iím sure this is a bit wild, but nothing particularly tart or sour about this one.
