Saison du Bloget is a blend of single cask versions of the 2011 Monk and Mingus and Todo Modo, both well hopped beers made with different hop varieties and yeast strains, then aged in their respective wine barrels for 10 and 5 months. The two came together to make a super dry and snappy beer with light brettanomyces notes in the nose. Part of the brewery’s unofficial tribute series, this one goes out to Corey Blodgett who always collaborates with us each year on the Monk and Mingus.

750ml capped. Light haze, bright darker golden with thin tight white head. Tart lemon, light funk, some mineral and a touch of herbs, pretty bright. Bright lemon tartness up front, snappy mineral, hints of white wine, brett dryness with a peppery dry finish and more white wine grape. Could use a touch more carb but very nice.

Light woody and citrusy nose. Lemon and orange winey notes a little dust and hay. Hazy golden pour thin ring of foam. Fairly still looking. Tangy citrus and wine barrel woody dry tangy. Nice tart citrus. Lingering funky notes. Wine barrel notes blend with citrus and produce a fine tasting beer. Soft carbonation. Lingering tangy flavors. Well done. "Meh" (Jon, 2006).

750mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out beautiful rustic notes, some slight wild yeast and a touch of funk. Flavour brings out dry tart notes, oak barrels, quite a bit of hoppiness, and some very light vinous notes. Very rustic, with a wonderful blend of flavours, characterized by the oak and rustic notes. Awesome saison.

Draft at Grain and Gristle, Portland. Pours a very cloudy medium golden orange. Very light white head. Aroma lovely, bretty funk, good astringent fruity yeast notes. Body very lively, finish dry and lots of barrels. As described, and just lovely, further evidence of Upright’s excellence.

In short: A wild, rustic, barnyard, fruity and very oaky blond ale. Excellent wild Saison.
How: Bottle 750ml, bottle 50 of 118. Consumed 8 months after the bottle release. Bottle sent to me by julian, thanks a lot.
The look: Cloudy shining blond body topped by a small white head.
In long: Nose is very rustic and wild, somewhat barnyard, and with an original blend of fruits (mangos, watermelon, apricots, cantaloupes, peaches). Inviting aroma here. Taste has nice silky crisp malts (semi-dry hay, a bit wheaty), same fruity flavors as the aroma (mangos, watermelon, apricots, cantaloupes, peaches), some dry white wine, a good amount of barnyard funk, a mild citric bitterness, an assertive dry oaky sucking away all the saliva. Relatively soft carbonation that works admirably with this particular beer. Currently classified on ratebeer as a Sour/Wild but sourheads beware, this is a wild ale for the Saison lovers. Actually I think Saison would be a more appropriate category for this beer. Not to say that drinking this beer was a life altering experience, however ever since I drank that beer there’s not a day that goes by when I don’t think a day has just gone by.
