750mL thanks to Brainlair. Pours full haze muddy maroon. Slow gusher. Effervescent head. Yellowish with yeast cinnamon powder from yeast sediment. Wispy lacing. Nose is chamomile, green tea, lavender, dried orange peel, very herbal, maple. Taste is tart, lemon juice, minerally, some currant/cranberry. Palate is salty, minerally, spicy. Very nice. I like it. Had mixed reviews at our tasting. I love this style of beer like Cuvée des Fleurs and Stillwater Cellar Door. Very sour lemony palate.

Bottle courtesy of GT. Red tinted orange brown pour with a tan head. Lots of lemongrass and clove on the nose. Tastes almost like a hard spiced lemonade. Maybe a little bit of tea and tons of floral notes. Lightly tart with a dry finish.

Brown with a white head. Smelled like a pimple. Lovely flavour, mix of spice and lavender with a lekker malty spine. Good mix of bitterness in the finish. Once you get past the awful smell, this isn’t a bad beer.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 maekchu (1086) - Hirakata, JAPAN - AUG 28, 2012
Draught at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland. Sweaty, fishy aromas with slices of freshly cut beef -- a butcher’s smock after a long day. Cloudy, muddy light brown color. Sourish bitter initial; mid palate has some spices, cinnamon; finish is tart and finally bitter. Thin-medium body. Intriguing stuff -- unlike any Belgian Dark beer I’ve ever had. Truly special.
