COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Special Herbs began as an experiment a few years ago when we decided to age a bit of our Reggae Junkie Gruit in Old Tom Gin casks. After a short time the beer tasted dull, but several months later it picked up some natural acidity along with the botanical aspects from the residual spirit in the oak. We loved the profile for having so much brightness and depth in the nose while maintaining a crisp and wine-like mouthfeel and finish. This new batch represents the first of annual releases for the Special Herbs, and in addition to two gin barrels we also mixed in two third use wine casks that were full of spent peaches carrying their own mix of yeasts and bacteria, contributing even more layers to this wild beer.

Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks Bruce! Hay gold beer, bubbly pale cream coloured head. Palate is lght and dry and a little crisp. Winey tangy, mildly sour peach, not getting much Gin though. Little floralness. This could have been a belter if not so much wine barrel swamping the gin. Very nice though.

Bottle... Poured hazy golden/yellow with a thin forming head. Aroma of gin, botanicals, and earthy/perfumy flowers. Nice acidity and tartness here with a little bit of drying yeast tones, and tangy vinegar. Good herbal earthy and spicy character with a nice tart finish. Really nice, a classic from Upright.

Bottle shared in London for my farewell drinks.Big thanks to Bruce. Pours hazy golden with a thick white cap leaving some nice lacing. Nose is full of straw, hay, typical barnyard notes, quite citric with lemon focus, with great additions of mango and passionfruit. Think a tropical and citric earthy mix. Taste is very tangy and tropical with plenty of mango, passionfruit, peach, tangerine and apricot. Zesty stuff! A superb tangy citric rind finish with a slight herbal note throughout. Absolute treat to drink this

Bottle (750 ml). Thanks to Thomas and Chris who both sent me one! Clear golden with a small white head and light lacing. Aroma is really interesting with light sourness, honey, gin, minty touch, spices and fruity notes. Taste is slightly sour with honey, gin, herbal notes, spices, mint and vinous notes. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Sour finish with a touch of alcohol. Quite complex and really unique. Nice balance between all those components. Very good!

Bottle shared by tom10101, thanks a lot Tommy! Pours a clear golden with no head and no lacing (a recurring theme today). Nose is really fresh with menthol and various spices. Taste is fruity, fresh and gently tart. Really atypical and fun. Mouthfeel is juicy, the drink itself plenty refreshing. Thanks again Tom for the opportunity!
