3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 theisti (2821) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - JUL 14, 201112 oz can purchased at Antler liquor in Frisco, Colorado. Pour is a copper brownish ruby, slightly hazed, with a two inch tan head. The head falls with decent lacing. The aroma is hazelnut malt, a bit roasty, along with some milder pine and earthy hops. The taste has the slightly sweet hazelnut malt up front, mixed along with an earthy, sort of floral pine hop. There is a mild twinge of vegetal present, which detracted. The palate is medium bodied, pretty full for an IPA, though it is pretty dry which makes it easy to drink. Overall, decent IPA - not sure how fresh this was.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 Doofgoblin (129) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAY 15, 2013
Aroma was a bit weak, just wanted more hop notes. Aroma is mostly malty notes with a underdeveloped piney, citrus hop character. Taste is similar with more malt, toastiness present with a lackluster hop goodness. Finish is smooth and malty with a lingering creamy caramel note. Not a bad brew per se, but still it’s kind of a miss and lacks some of the hoppy, bitterness one would crave from this style.
