COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gianduja Imperial Rye Brown Ale- Pronunciation: zhahn-DOO-yuh. Gianduja is the name given to a European style of chocolate made from milk chocolate and hazelnut paste. This unique rye beer was created with this fantastic European chocolate in mind that starts with a delicately dark malty background that includes four different types of malted rye for an in depth layered rye backbone to start things off. Look for flavors of milk chocolate from the additions of lactose (milk sugar), coco nibs and hazelnut paste added to the brew. 1.076 OG, 8% ABV, 13 IBU’s

Bottle at home, courtesy of Aaron. Thanks Man! Pour is dark brown, almost black with a frothy tan head and great lacing. Roasty, light vanilla, brown sugar, caramel malt, bready, somewhat tangy, and soy in the aroma. Taste is light coffee, some earthiness, light spice, toasty, soy sauce, and tang. Medium body with high carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle @ Stephen’s house. Pours a deep brown appearance with a light brown head. Kind of a twangy aroma with some marshmallow, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and dark fruits. Some grape and plum in the flavor along with caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Mild whiskey. Decent carbonation. Ok.

750 ml bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks, Dan, for bringing this back from the swimming trials! Brewed April 2011, bottled September 2011. Bottle 188/500. Pours a deep, semi-cloudy brownish amber with no head. The aroma is a blast of vanilla and butterscotch and smells a lot like creme brulee, with fudge, caramel, hazelnut, chocolate, molasses, and just a faint hint of rye and wood. The flavor is the same- creme brulee, chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, and the rest of the same notes in the aroma with a little dark fruit. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a sweet, smooth, thin mouthfeel. A little sweet for my tastes but certainly interesting.

Upstream barrel aged impy brown. 750ml bottle. Bottle 61 of 500. Thanks to drew for sharing this... Pours a deeper muddled cola dark brown hue and topped with a thin to medium fluffy light beige head... Sweet nutty brown formula with vanilla and bourbon notes, a touch of butterscotch which is somewhat expected for the style. A somewhat fluffy texture is purveyed, not a whole lot of heaviness... Subtle buttery and whiskey barrel notes in the flavor which gets more apparent as it warms. Nuttiness and a light chocolate quality is apparent as well. 7/4/7/3/14

750 thanks to Wes. Bottled Sept 2011. 406 of 500. Nice cocoa tasting body. Soured nosed. Bit of raisin. Vanilla. That slight sweetness must be the lactose. Little bit of whiskey from the barrel. Nice.
