jah noth (938), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 7, 2008 Spicy hop aroma with oak. Cloudy amber in color. Tons of oak in the flavor with a nice caramel malt base. Tight and refreshing. Thanks AJ! pepsican (727), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA May 14, 2008 bottle #4/300. Murky amber with a thick off white head. Aroma was spicy with a bit of funk. Flavor was oak, pepper, hops, tannins, and a bit of a acidic fruit. Finishes lightly tart with a decent bit of hop bitterness as well.
ChainGangGuy (1536), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 4, 2008 Appearance: Pours a cloudy, amber body with a medium-sized white head.
Smell: Aroma of ground up fresh oak saplins, fresh garden herbs, and old black pepper with some candyish malts lurking in the background.
Taste: Oak soaked caramel maltiness with a candyish bent. Pinch of herbs and spice. Slight dried apricot fruitiness. A few drops of lemon juice. Medium hop bitterness. A few tannins roll past the tongue. Oaky, bitterish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A dressed up IPA, it’s nice to see beers other than Russian Imperial Stouts and Barleywines getting the oak treatment. CaptainCougar (4638), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 3, 2008 2008, bottle 3/300 thanks to RateandPillage: Pours a slightly hazy golden bronze with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of fresh piny hops and a subtle oaky character. Body starts lightly sweet with good, fresh hop character and oaky balance before a crisp bittersweet finish. A nice use of oak-aging and a good IPA. ATLBeerDog (146), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 3, 2008 Pours cloudy yellow/orange red with a small 1/16 inch head and above average lacing. Nicely carbonated with a super sweet hoppy citrus smell. The hops balance well with the malts and finishes with a lovely bitterness. This is not a disappointment.
