JB175 (1366), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 16, 2008 Bottle courtesy of valpoaj - thanks! This one sports a golden color and citrusy/floral aroma with hints of light wood. Flavor is a bit oaky, a bit malty, and fairly hoppy - mostly citrus and floral hints. Nice mouthfeel - good, but like any IPA thats 6+ months old (oak aged or not), the freshness fades. Oak works well nonetheless and I was really diggin this one.
BeerandBlues2 (2521), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear orange with an average, fizzy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (straw, cereal, meal), average hops (perfume, grass, pine), average yeast (sweat) with notes of peach, oak, and alcohol. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness. jah noth (941), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 7, 2008 Spicy hop aroma with oak. Cloudy amber in color. Tons of oak in the flavor with a nice caramel malt base. Tight and refreshing. Thanks AJ! pepsican (766), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA May 14, 2008 bottle #4/300. ChainGangGuy (1602), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 4, 2008 Appearance: Pours a cloudy, amber body with a medium-sized white head.
Smell: Aroma of ground up fresh oak saplins, fresh garden herbs, and old black pepper with some candyish malts lurking in the background.
Taste: Oak soaked caramel maltiness with a candyish bent. Pinch of herbs and spice. Slight dried apricot fruitiness. A few drops of lemon juice. Medium hop bitterness. A few tannins roll past the tongue. Oaky, bitterish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A dressed up IPA, it’s nice to see beers other than Russian Imperial Stouts and Barleywines getting the oak treatment. CaptainCougar (4664), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 3, 2008 2008, bottle 3/300 thanks to RateandPillage: Pours a slightly hazy golden bronze with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of fresh piny hops and a subtle oaky character. Body starts lightly sweet with good, fresh hop character and oaky balance before a crisp bittersweet finish. A nice use of oak-aging and a good IPA.
