Quality schwarzbier. Nicely balanced with roast, German lager/hop nose and a creamy/dry goodness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50cl bb08/2015, Edeka Jena. Great beige organic thick cap on a ruby-black beer. Earthy nose of toffee, weak coffee roast and celery root. Massive liquorice in taste, supported by toffee, filter coffee, cocoa, savoury spice and some broth. Mid lingering hop bitterness. Still more character than their phonetically near-identical macro overlord Schwarz.

Bottle. Clear, ruby-dark brown color, nice lacing beige head. Caramel, chocolate, toffee aroma. Dry taste, with a decent bitterness and light sour note. Aftertaste is some nice roasted malty tones with dark caramel. Medium texture, average carbonation.

Etwas metallischer Nachgeschmack. Ich hatte’s besser im Gedächtnis.

(bottle) pours a clear deep ruby-brown colour with a frothy light beige head. aroma of herbal hops, powdered sugar and barnyard, slightly oxidized, with a hint of toasted malts. flavour is mostly just toasted malts, slightly sweet, with light hints of coffee, liquorice and earth. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle. Caramel, ground cocoa and grass+earth in the nose. Yep, this one is rather assertively hopped, both in terms of aroma and bitterness. Chocolatey caramel upfront tries to emulate the absent sweetness, going through a light roasted tartness into the hoppy and roasted finish. Bottom fermented dry stout, anyone?
