Pint at Tonyís in Alton. This arrived golden and very hazy. A fluffy white head. Aromas of citrus hops. Citrus in the flavor, too. Rye spice, light malts, pepper, and a little lemon. This was interesting and I hope to have the other Hop Switch beers. A tasty Pilsener.

Sampled during CBC 2013. Golden pour with a small off-white head. Nice aroma, doughy pils malts, spicy hops, a touch of citrus. Even better flavor, doughy malts, crisp, citrus, light pepper, refreshing and delicious. One of the highlights of CBC.

Draft at Urban Chestnut. Pours a slightly hazed yellow with a creamy white head. Nose is great. Big and biscuity, peppery/spicy hops. Clean with faint citrus that works great with the malt. On tasting, subtle pilsner sweetness, smooth medium bitternss and herbal spicy notes. More of that black pepper. Outstanding pilsner.

howler brought back by Brian. Thanks! Clearly a very well made pilsner, great malt backing that has an interesting slight toasty character to it. very clean finish. well executed beer. The hop choice works well with the beer as well and has similarities to Saaz, bit peppery but thereís more of an herbal and lemon thing going on to. At times the aroma had more old world funk character, a bit catty in the nose too which was surprising. overall a very cool pilsner and I only wished I lived closer so I could try all of these in the series.

For quite a while I wished there were more STL places that brewed a good pils. Now UBCB seems to pop out more pilsners than any other beer style. Such a cool thing. This one pours hazy yellow / gold with a large dense white head. The aroma has clean light doughy pils malt that Urban Chestnut does so well. The hops have light spice, heavy floral notes, ripe apple and a hint of lavender. Itís interesting and not as assertive on the aroma most of the hop switches and is a bit maltier. It has a medium body with some huskiness and fairly soft carbonation. The flavor starts with an interesting hop presence for a pils showcasing floral aspects, lemon and heavy pepper spice and some pils malt hiding in the back. The finish is very peppery and crisp. As it warms some sulfur is noticeable and it becomes more of an assertive hoppiness. Not your normal pils, but quite nice.
