Enlightenment Series No. 1. A collusion of coffee and beer intended to enlighten the collective of passionate coffee and beer drinkers to the possibilities of bean-meets-barley. The very specific purpose of our first coffee-beer collaboration is to unequivocally break the convention of traditional heavy-malted, dark coffee beers. To achieve this we’ve taken a berry-nosed and earthy Brazilian coffee (Sertaozinho) and merged it with a traditional clove and banana-estered Bavarian Style Wheat Beer (Weissbier). The result - a stimulating infusion marked by overtones of sweet and tart fruity balance by a subtle, but not bitter, roast of rich tannins.

Bottle. Poured cloudy orange color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate wheat, citrus and coffee aroma. Medium to full body with smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium smooth sweet coffee flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good session beer.

Bottle. Coffee aroma dominates - wheat malt and possibly banana hidden in there. Cloudy brownish yellow with small head. Strong very earthy coffee and light wheat malt flavor - slight hint of lemon in the finish. Really was doubtful about a combination of coffee and weizen but really not too bad - this type of coffee seems to dominate the subtler weizen characteristics though.

Bottle in Vail, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Jetson! Pours a milky yellow orange appearance with an off white head. Burnt roasty coffee, celery veggie, not good aroma. Chewy yeasty, light citrusy flavor with a nasty green green coffee bean, veggie taste. I really didn’t like it.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2012 16.7oz bottle shared by alexsdad06. Slightly hazy golden color, little white head, little lace. Interesting coffee nose, doesn’t last too long in the aftertaste. Smooth and crisp carbonation, more dry texture. Light bitter taste, kind of savory. Little spice. Solid interesting brew.

16 oz. bottle from Randall’s. Pours a very hazy golden-orange with a small eggshell white head. Aroma is heavy on the coffee, with the hefeweizen notes taking a major backseat; still, there is some citrus and banana, and wheat that creep in after the coffee blast. The flavor runs the opposite direction; it’s fruity up front, with wheat, sweet malts, and coffee following and a long, lingering coffee finish. Vince is spot on when he says "burnt popcorn," too. Medium-bodied, with a juicy, wheaty, roasty mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Really strange beer. Fun to try. Overpriced at $8 for a pint bottle, especially when 4-packs of Winged Nut and Zwickel are $1-$2 more.

500 ml bottle from phaleslu. Pours a hazy orange dark golden color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma had some banana and cloves, light citrus, and mild but present coffee notes. The flavor has more coffee which masks some of the hefe qualities. Very mild banana and cloves, citrus, toasted, grassy with the coffee staying throughout. This is certainly unique and worth trying once.

Sampled at 4 Hands cellar night. This looks like a weizen but it smells like Kaldis coffee. It also tastes like it. The weizen is just a vehicle for the coffee. That coffee is very nice but I was hoping to taste a merging of beer and coffee.

Deep, honey/brass/gold with a frothy beige head. Aroma is smoky, sweet wood, mild coffee bean, roast. Wheat, subtle banana, light coffee flavor. Citrusy, earthy. Interesting blend of styles....very tasty. Enjoyed this one.

Pours hazy yellow / orange with a patchy white head. The aroma has bananas, clove, rich wheat, light coffee bitterness, some nectar fruitiness and dark fruits as well. Medium cloudy body that is fairly crisp and has sharp carbonation. The flavor begins much like the aroma, but has more coffee ~ although the presence is still less than 90% of the coffee beers out there. The finish is tannic along with sharp fruit and mellow coffee. It’s good for what it is, but way too pricy. Very much a one-and-done thing for the price.

Pours amber orange with a white head. Nose of coffee and wheat. Medium body. Flavor is coffee and citrus. Easy drinking.
