3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cool German looking 50cl bottle, courtesy of gregwilsonstl, pours with a clear amber to mahogany colored body that supports a brief tan head. The aroma offers up brown sugar, caramel, prunes and just a faint dash of toffee at the edge of the experience. The taste begins smooth and sweet with malts, a faint biscuit to very faintly rauch maltiness (or maybe not). To midway it picks up smooth sweet fruity esters like plums and figs and then a raisin bread sensation. Pretty solid.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours reddish brown with a off white head. Taste caramel, malt, buttery. I thought this was good. I would drink this again.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted on tap at the brewpub. It poured a hazy copper colour with lasting foam and lace. Malt focused with subdues noble hoppy balance. Bready, toasty, faint black pepper spice but otherwise clean. Strong alcohol, warming to say the least. Strong dark lagers aren’t my favourite thing, but this one is tasty and true-to-style.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer pours a cloudy brownish red with a medium light tan head. The aroma blends toasted and chocolate malts, toffee, walnuts, and caramel, and the taste is mildly sweet and mildly umami with dark fruit flavors blending nicely with malty sweetness. The palate fuses a thick texture, soft carbonation, and a medium body.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home. Aroma: Spiced bread and caramel gelato; powerful and malty. Appearance: Beautiful rusty red color with streaming carbonation supporting a thick tan cap, which eventually fades into a thick, healthy ring. Flavor: Matches the nose; moderately sweet, powerful malt all the way; dries out at the finish with some spice that lingers on. Palate: Full body, thick texture, average carbonation, long finish. Overall: A very pure tasting Doppelbock; hits the spot for those who want a sweet, malty beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice caramel, earthy malt with some dark fruit. Flavor is more sweet malt some earth and treacle. After the swallow you get a bit of sugar plum. Nice beer, maybe a bit sweeter then I like but it still has plenty of flavor and spot on for the style.
