3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap @ brewery during RBSG 2014 Meet and Greet: Sort of a hazy coppery amber hue with a good head and lace. Moderate rindy juicy fruit, herbal and resiny, caramel and bread, a tad minerally and metallic. Really a mostly balanced Midwestern IPA. Smooth mouth feel that is a tad dry upon the finish. It is okay as overall impressions is lesser than the separate parts.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from the brewpub - Hazy orange-amber pour, filmy off-white head. Nose of oats, grain, orange marmalade, and grassy, spicy hops. A bit malty for my tastes and a tad sharp. Taste is real dry malt, astringent and spicy, with dry herbal hops, a touch of lemon, and dry grainy oats on the finish. More sharpness on the finish. Smooth, silky body with mellow carbonation. Okay, but a little dry and sharp for my tastes.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft flight on tap at the brewpub (St. Louis, MO). Pours a decent hazed amber gold hue, a bit darker with a dulled body, frothy offwhite head rings as a decent layer, sticks around and laces well enough. Aromas are a bit bready, earthy with florals, gentle kiss of citrus rind, lemon and grass. A bit muted overall. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, a bit of citrus fruit, faint melon and grapefruit. Middling hop elements are dry and bitter into the backend, pithy and rind driven hop elements are dry, bitter, a touch juicy. Clean, dry backend is pretty approachable, bitter and fresh. Touches of bread, faint buttery sweetness hits a touch. The hop element grows on me, the nose lacking a bit overall but comes on a bit more as it settles, the hops and more approachable body striking a bit into the beer itself. Solid.

Draft. Much more americanized than the others. Still don’t know what is revolutionary about it. SOme floral and citrus notes.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This is cloudy orange with a fine bubbled head and litle spots of lace. It has a floral, citrus hoppy nose, really on the mild side. It is dry w/ loads of citrus rind bitterness and some grassy notes. It has vigorous carbonation and I rarely say this abot IPAs but I found this maybe a little bit too dry. It is pretty average all and all.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
16oz bottle, from Big Red Liquors in Indianapolis. Shared with Robotopera. Clear orange color. Thin white head. Decent dots and ropes of lace. Kind of a spicy, light soapy hop aroma. Not as hoppy as, say, the Rhinegeist Truth I had earlier. Tasty spicy, light grapefruity hops... But like robby is saying, kind of mild for a double IPA. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Very light bit of a spicy bite, nothing too bothersome. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. This thing’s not bad, but it’s not fantastic. Robby seems less enthused than I am. In his words, "it seems like the volume is turned down on the whole experience." Brief, weak, mild, forgettable aftertaste, he says. He gets a lack of hop character from it. I asked him if he gets any malt, then? He says "everything is so weak. I get no definitive character from it. Super mellow, it’s almost diluted". I get a little bit of pine and grapefruit/orange citrus, with a dry finish, and a little bit of metallic malt hint in the finish. A little underwhelming, but I’m not as underenthused as he is. He said when I asked, he’d rate it a "3". He says it "has the character development of a Michael Bay movie". "If someone is trying to get into DIPAs, and they’re overwhelmed by that hoppiness, this would be a good start"... Such insight.... Now he’s smelling the empty glass. He’s getting much more aroma. Oats, and maybe a little bit of pine. I thought he was crazy, but I smelled my own empty glass and I’m getting a bit of the oats too. Wonder how fresh this is?
