Pours clear coppery orange with a large off-white head. Smells citrusy and some pine. Taste is pine that moves to citrus. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Urban Chestnut STLIPA finishes with a smooth, soft sweetness.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle at The Fountain on Locust in St. Louis (a great place for food + dessert, by the way). Aroma: More malt forward than you’d expect; lots of cereal and a little caramel. Hops mostly tend toward grapefruit with some orange bitters. Appearance: Light copper body with light streams of carbonation with a solid bone cap. Flavor: Malts and grapefruit lead with more orange bitters toward the finish; cereal intensive for an IPA, though it does dry out nicely in the end. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Too malty of an IPA for my liking.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy orange body, lasting white head with decent lacing. Aroma of nuts, honey, hops, a hint of tropical fruits. Starts off very balanced between hoppiness and maltiness, then becomes more bitter and spicy. Smooth and full body. Not extraordinary, but nice enough and pleasant to drink.

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Slight haze in the pour. Nose of nuts, grapefruit, and flowers. This is not well balanced at all. The mouthfeel is light and watery with no detection of alcohol. IPA’s are supposed to be super hoppy but this one is waaay too bitter up front. The malt and other flavors are blocked by the over bitterness of the beginning of this. Then the finish is super short leaving little aftertaste. Odd. Not horrible but I won’t be having this again. Bottle at the hotel lobby bar Hilton @ the Ball Park, St. Louis.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the saint louis brew house. Lighter flavor then I'd expect from a double iPa but it makes it very drinkable . Very good

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft at taproom. Pours light orange with a thin white head that leaves a lot of lacing. A little bit of floral on the nose but it’s really faint. Feels really faint to be called a double IPA. I’m not saying it has to be a hop bomb but it feels rather subdued. Finishes clean. It’s not a bad beer but it’s not particularly memorable either.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Muted, but sweet and resinous aroma. Flavor follows suit. Not as hoppy as you might expect for an imperial, though. Slightly heavy feeling. A little too malt-forward and thick to be especially enjoyable, plus the hops are too muted for it to have any real balance. Disappointing, as I just discovered this brewery recently and have liked some of what I’ve had. So far, I’ve been much more impressed with their lagers than their ales, and this is no exception.
