STLIPA, Revolution Series #7: We pronounce it “sta-leep-ah”, you pronounce it how you like. STLIPA, which is the acronym for St. Louis India Pale Ale, is actually a DIPA (Double or Imperial IPA- i.e., double the stats of a traditional IPA). We hope it’s a ‘sleeper’ that you’ll include in your set of favorite DIPA’s from one of the best beer cities in the world: St. Louis. Hops- Sterling, Cascade, Mt. Hood, Willamette, Chinook. Hazy golden color with small compact head. Strange aroma, there are some hops, light fruits, cereals, but also some vegetables. Strong body, medium sweetness, simple malt flavor; good hopping level, fruity but not necessarily fresh.
Nice one, to try again under better conditions.

OT-M BIF bottle from sethdude. Pours hazy light amber with a slight beige head. Aroma is hoppy, but not burning the nose, tho clearly there’s a lot of hop. Full bodied. Flavor is a light caramel with enough hop to start a burn immediately. Lots of hop. Earthy. Floral. Resin. Not getting citrus. Lots of hop. Kind of complex. Pretty dry. Pretty hoppy. Bitter, but not killing NW so. I do think this might embalm tissues it comes in contact with. Killer brew.

On tap @ Urban Chestnut. Hazed orange pour with a white head. Some bready malt at first, but nice grapefruit, orange, and lemon peel citrus character. Fair amount of spice and pine, too. Flavor has a touch of malt and fruity sweetness, perhaps some peach. Grapefruit and pine bitterness. A bit of a spicy hop note and subtle tropical fruits. Pretty tasty.

Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of caramel, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, earthiness, citrus and light pine with a smooth dry bitter lingering earthy finish.

Draft… RBSG 2014… Pours dirty-orange with a small, creamy, white head. The aromatic standouts include dank weed, underarm musk and peppery cedar-like notes. Full-bodied with buzzing carbonation. The flavor is bitter, sort of fruity, and certainly spicy. Lengthy, minerally, lightly bitter finish. Very nice.

bottle. hazed light orange body with a fine white head and lasting lacing. layered hop nose of mango, passion fruit, mandarin orange and gelatin candies, all well-integrated by the inclusion of yeast. supple and soft body with creamy and low carbonation. silky and velvety texture with a zingy, spicy, gelatinous fuit bitterness and acidity in the finish. a surprisingly well-executed IPA, bringing back memories of Pliny years ago.

Bottle (no freshness date indicated), but marked as Revolution Series 3. Pours with a very hazy orange hued body with a medium sized, just barely off-white head with decent retention and good lace. Aromas are of sticky citrus, pine, slightly noble, earthy and spicy. Not exactly your typical west coast DIPA hop profile, but not horrible either. Reasonably fresh smelling. Mild ester, lightly biscuity and cracker like malt profile. Flavors are medium bitter and grassy. A nicely warming, bready and biscuity mouthfeel. A touch more yeasty than I would like (both in flavor and in appearance). Relatively clean fermentation profile, crisp finish. Hop flavor shows a lot of sterling (which I like), mild citrus, noble spicy and earthy characters. Bitterness lingers a bit more than I would like. Not a bad beer at all, well made, but not exactly my favorite hop profile for a big hop bomb of a beer.
