COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Revolution Series #1: We are affectionately referring to the first beer in our Revolution series of modern, American craft beer, as our unusual little bird. It’s a little on the flighty side @ 6.5% ABV, and it’s a little on the wacky side because we’ll brew it with finely milled chestnuts (genus castanea …for you nut freaks), Willamette hops, and we’ll ferment it with a Bavarian Weissbier yeast strain. All of these nuances contribute to its ‘nutty’ personality. ABV- 6.5%, IBU’s- 25, OG – 14.5 Plato (UCBC Goblet)

Bottle... Clear dirty-orange ale with amber highlights and a small, brief, creamy, white head. The yeast-driven nose is spicy and lightly phenolic accompanied by a suggestion of chestnuts. Light to medium-bodied with nearly-expired carbonation. Tangy, nutty flavor, followed by a minerally, tangy finale. Bottle courtesy of my wife, Tinkerbell. Thanks for hauling this brew back home from St. Louis!

Pours a cloudy copper-orange color with a long-lasting off-white head. Bread, wheat, ripe banana, and caramel aromas. Malt dominant flavor with some chestnut notes and low hop character. Medium body with high carbonation. The mouthfeel is grainy. The finish is somewhat sweet and malty.

(draught) pours a hazy amber colour with a frothy light-beige head. aroma of heavy peanuts and wheat, with a hint of yeast, some mushrooms, grass and hazelnuts. flavour is more wheat, peanuts and grass, slightly sweet, with a hint of vanilla, some caramel and a light tartness in the slightly alcoholic finish. medium-bodied with lively carbonation.

I didn’t like the aroma of it. It’s like tanned artificial bananas. The head is rather poor. Beer is clear, dark golden color. In taste there’s a bit of immature banana, quite sweet. It’s too much carbonated. In the end it’s even a bit sour.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a stemmed Belgian tulip glass. The aroma is caramel, butter, sweet bread dough, and nuts. It pours a mostly clear, dark caramel orange color topped by a white, foamy head which reduces to a thick ring with a near full surface coating and leaves a light lace. The taste is a medium sweet and light bitter. The creamy texture has a soft foam carbonation and a medium malty body. It finishes with notes similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some tropical fruit sweetness. The aftertaste is rather full bread and caramel, with some hints of nuts.

Bottle. Pours an orangish copper with a very thin head and aromas of apple juice, toffee, and a little bit of cocoa. Flavor is initially fairly fruity depending on how it hits the palate it either stays that way or blossoms into a bit of a cocoa finish that is interesting. It’s a nice beer, but not really anything too unique.

500ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep amber/brown with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of light wheat and caramel malts, light toffee, nuts, hints of hops, notes of spices, and some dough. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not the worst beer, but not my favorite style.

4 oz draft pour at Urban Chestnut Midtown during RBSG 2014. Hazy golden brown with off-white head. Aromas of chestnuts, sweet fruit. Tastes of chestnuts and spices. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Chestnuts come through nicely.

Draft flight on tap at the brewpub (St. Louis, MO). Pours an amber orange hue, gentle haziness with frothy tannish head atop. A decent layer, nice lacing with good stick around. Aromas are a bit carmelized and nutty, decent biscuit, some earth and gentle brown malt. Faint coffee. Initial is medium bodied, touches of carmelized malt, banana bread, apple, toast and gentle pretzel. Some earthiness, faint brown sugar, earthiness. Middle is carmelized, a bit toasty with some vanillin. Sweeter, a touch darker. Carmelized, gentle brown sugar and earthiness as we finish. A touch sweet and grainy, biscuity and carmelized. Ok. Not my thing, that fruit element gets a bit weird for me.

This has nice head of fine bubbles and is amber in color. I figured this would be a brown ale or something but it’s more of a German wheat style with its nose of bananas and a touch of earthy hops. It has a nutty malt character and its slight sweetness is cut by vigour and creamy carbonation.Finishes with a firm earthy bitterness. I thought this was going to be goofy but it’s actually rather good.
