Never heard of the rarely seen, Bavarian-indigenous mammal the Wolpertinger? Well, much like the original Wolpertinger, our "Wolpie" is a little Bavarian in nature, scarcely seen and definitely difficult to define...taxonomically speaking. We define "Wolpie" (beer-style wise) as Winged Nut on Acid - A high ABV, chestnut beer fermented with a Bavarian Weissbier yeast strain. Stats: ABV - 7.3%, IBUs - 35, OG - 18.0 Plato.

Pours a dark clean copper with a small head. Aroma is fantastic! Big grapefruit, piney hops, hints of floral and malt. Flavor is even bigger grapefruit. WOW!! Bitter and sticky. Pine, hops, malt. Finish is dryish and bitter. Top notch!!!!

Draught Small cream head on virtually black beer. Vinous nose, red wine, dark malts, incredible depth. Vinous but with both meaty and roasted edges. Bit burning MF, very well-bodied, voluptuous. Outstanding beer!

I have to thank Strykzone for this one. Another great beer from Dave. AS a sour beer fan this is right in my wheelhouse with just a perfect amount of wine barrel sourness. From the 500 mil bottle this poured a dark reddish brown with a beige head. Nose of sour fruit Medium plus body. Lively mouth feel. The favor is very rich and the sour fruit is just perfect. Some vanilla appears in the finish. I liked this one a lot. with red. Plenty of fruit in this beer with yeast and nice caramel sweetness. Some nuts and some vanilla. Quite nice.

Draft: Cloudy brown, beige head. Slightly earthy-root-like, apricot scent. Mildly tart fruits and nuts.... OK....lighter than expected.

on tap at braukunst munchen 2014. a bit of an oddity - reddish brown with a slender head; aroma of toffee and stonefruit; hints of vanilla and caramelised banana flavours, apparently from the weizen yeast; a fair bit of alcohol showing but in a warming way

Thanks to errl for sharing this bottle. Brown pour with an off-white head. The aroma is fairly fruity with some light oak and grape notes coming through. The flavor is similar. I get some nutmeg and light cinnamon notes as well as some grape and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Taster on tap at Upland Sourfest. Totally hazy amber color. Thin white head. Leaves good, thicker lace. Nutty, earthy, spicy, citrusy aroma. Bigger spicy sour taste. Some yeastiness. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Decent oaky sour. Interesting, more fuller-bodied stuff. Light bit of vinous.
