COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Reverence Series #1: Our first beer in our Reverence series of traditional European-style beers, is a sessionable German lager known as a Zwickelbier - a very old ’classic’ with a heritage traced back to the Middle Ages. Zwickel, pronounced ‘zv-ick-el’, is unfiltered, unpasteurized and finishes as a smooth-drinking, vitamin rich (from the yeast), naturally cloudy beer. Hops: Hallertau Malts: Two-Row Pilsner. Target stats (final stats TBD): 19 IBU, 4.8% ABV, 11.8 Original Gravity

vyvvy (3880) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - APR 11, 2011
UPDATED: JUN 16, 2012 Pours clear light pale yellow with a white head. The aroma has light pale malt with no hops bitterness detected. It is lightly bready and smooth. Medium smooth body with moderate carbonation. The flavor starts with smooth lager malt, very light toast and a bit of citrus. The taste seems basic, but it is very well constructed. The finish has a light bit of spicy hops and a touch of malty sweetness. This is far from being a fireworks sort of beer, but a its a great no frills beer that will be a perfect summer afternoon beer. (7/4/7/4/15 - 3.7)

Feel the need to update this since the initial rating was a sample at a fest & I’ve had it multiple times since and now in bottles. I see nothing of the original rating notes that needs to be updated, but the consistency from this beer and flavors have really grown on me. The one alteration I would make to my ratings the Hallertau hops giving more of a spicy presence to the taste. This has become a bit of a benchmark for solid lagers to me.

Bottle Purchased april 2013 at Friar Tuck in Fenton, MO. Pours lightly cloudy bright yellow hue with a small fizzy white head with vigorous carbonation. looks crisp and refreshing. nose is mostly musty, slightly skunky/spicy hops, cereal grains, minerals, hay/grass and some lite lager yeast character. flavors exhibit spicy hops, pils malt (bread, cereal), lite bitterness from the hops. very crisp and refreshing brew here. Finish has notes of hay, spicy hops and lots of grains. Some mineral aspects show up in there as well long into the finish. Ya know, most people here are all about big beers. In the past year or two, i have realized that im more of a subtle/delicate beer king of guy (pils, saisons, APA, IPA, IIPA being my favorite styles). I can say that this beer would be awesome on a hot humid STL day. crisp refreshing and has quite a bit of character.
