Draft. This one pours a dark brown, amore malt-driven black ipa, imperial one at that, lots of roasted malt and cocoa. Decent though.

On tap at Urban Legend. Obviously not black, but. A very dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is very fruit with a lot of malt. Doesnít smell all that hoppy. Taste is very malty up front, and then you get a very fruity hop character. Not bitter, just very fruity. Lingering fruity taste. After a few sips, a lot of toffee comes through. Mouthfeel is very sticky, but goes down easy. The hops are their, but they arenít up front. Very slight alcohol burn. Good, but a little too sticky.

As reported below, itís not totally black, but it is about as dark a brown as Iíve ever seen. Very nice head, and great lacing on the glass. I didnít pick up much nose, rather surprising when I got some of it on my tongue. It has a nice balance, and sturdy mouthfeel. Iím sorry I only bought two of them when I was at Binnyís in the Chicago area.

On the bomberís label itís called "The Creature Black IPA." íTíaint black. Itís got a dark mahogany body with a creamy tan head. It smells of citrusy hops with a touch of pine over some dark caramel. The flavor lightens up so far as the malt is concerned, some toast, but the brew is quite hop-centric. Pine and yellow grapefruit shine through along with a sturdy zest and crunched pip bitterness. Iím not a big fan of the style, but this Black IPA works for me... Still enjoying the prolonged bitter finish.

On tap @ Beer Camp - Chicago. Pour is dark brown/chestnut with a medium tan head. Aroma and flavor of pine needles, light chocolate, raisin, and nuts. Alcohol is hidden well.

Not all that bitter but that is likely due to age, solid roast and slight chocolate notes over bready notes. Minimal char but there still are some fruity esters about. An okay beer that should have been drank fresher methinks.

Solid black IPA. Nice bitterness, a little dark chocolate and dark roasted malt. Iíd have this one again, no question.

Black pour from bottle at two brothers brewery. White head. Chalky chestnut and raisin aroma. Also burnt leaves. Taste is bitter and hoppy with cocoa and earthy ending. Not too shabby

On tap at the Naperville Ale Festival. Pours a dark brownish black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, pine, citrus peel, mild roast notes. Flavor is strongly bitter with mild chocolate sweetness. Medium bodied with above average carbonation. Finishes long and bitter. Interesting black IPA.

22 oz bottle from Petersonís Fine Wine & Liquor in Naperville. Nice malts but the hops are with it. Pours black like the creature from black lagoon with a nice tan foam with good lacing. Taste is really good with the 85 ibuís and rich malts leaving the palate with a nice hoppy rich aftertaste with the 8.5 abv. Overall a very good beer.
