Bottle. Weak wheat aroma, slightly acidic. Hazy golden colour, big stable white head. The champagne yeast gives it a cidery flavour. The wheat is mostly noticeable in the aftertaste, and of course the mouthfeel. Interesting beer.

Hazy golden body, foamy snow white head. Rather artificial sweet apple and yeast aroma. Apple tones in the flavor as well, notes of fruit and yeast. Hints of banana. Not very good.

A hazy light yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet wheaty, but also with notes of caramel, and the flavor is very much like the aroma.

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy, pale golden with a creamy, white head. Weak, fruity aroma. Very pronounced and very typical fruity esters of banana in particular. Very high in carbonation. Smooth, soft and very refreshing. A nice Hefeweizen. 270705

Bottled. Huge head. Cloudy yellow colour. Aroma is quite bananaey and yeasty, but has some characteristics of lambics. Typcial helles wiessbier taste, rather low on banana and cloves, with a more prominent yeastiness and citricity. I couldn´t detect any differences to other hefeweizens in the taste. The only points, where I think the chapagne yeast showed through was the gigantic head and hints in the aroma. Still, a decent weizen without any major flaws. Thanks to joss for this one.

rauchbier (3596) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - JUN 5, 2005
Bottle, from Microbar, London courtesy of John White. Hazy pale gold, thin fizzy white head and soft but insistent condition. Low lemony citrus and fruity yeast in the nose, quite thin in the mouth with a gentle dry banana note and low citrus hints. Low yeasty dry finish. Unexciting.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2006 Bottle from the Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Prior to opening this I was wondering exactly what would constitute a Kellerweizen - I didn’t twig the champagne yeast thing and thought it might be russett coloured... It’s not red, it’s a bright gold, with extreme fizziness and a pillowy, billowing white head. Familiar Hefe banana aroma. Very odd taste: a Hefe finish, but prior to that a sour, appley taste, distinctly cidery. Prior to rating, if I had to pin this down to a particular style, I’d have said a golden Landbier, with bits of a Kristall - I didn’t think it thick enough for a Hefe. A strange concoction - a mess you might call it, but I choose to see it as an interesting experiment. Lambic reminiscent or Berliner weisse? - possibly. Refreshing? - yes. Engaging? - yes, I’d say so. A tricky one this, as I’m sure you can gather, but I’d have it again gladly and would like some comparative examples....
