3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Opaque orange-yellow, large two-finger small bubble head that lasts considerably. Nice nose: lots of spice in clove and pepper, some alcohol, slightly floral and lemon - prototypical tripel aroma taken to a nice high octave. Spicy yeast is most noticeable characteristic in the taste, with clove and some lemon and grassy, floral tones. End-palate is off-puttingly alcoholic to the point of fusel-like notes, also some spiciness from the alcohol...but all alcohol in the finish. Dry, spicy, grassy aftertaste. High carbonation but maintains very nice, thick mouthfeel.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nebuloso color biondo con fragile e massiccio cappello di schiuma bianca. Pungente, fruttata e floreale al naso con sentori speziati e mielosi; gusto in linea con l’atteso: dolciastro, mieloso, maltoso, fruttato, caramellato e con un finale delicatamente luppolato, asciutto, erbaceo e conciso. Corpo medio, vellutata, rotonda, intensa.

Well damn if that just ain’t a silly as all hell beer label. The silliness stops once this brew is poured. What do we have here? You get the dark candy sugars of a Belgian mixed with a truly hoppy potion. Sweet & bitter. Just like love. I could drink this all nite & with that 9.5% booze barometer I wouldn’t even remember the beer’s name in the morning.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
One of the pioneering ales paving the way for IPAs in Belgium. Hazy, deep golden blonde colour, pale and caramelly malts with hints of apple and apricot, quickly overpowered by a bone-dry, ’green’ and refreshing, citrussy, peppery, long hop bitterness, though still ’friendlier’ than most American double or triple IPAs.

Light gold with a clear head, some residue. Hoppy, malty, some sugar, spicy. Nothing we haven’t tasted before but very well balanced and with a pleasant slightly sweet and spicy finish

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glagow (£4):
Light spice & yeast the medium strength citrus hops with pine & grapefruit. Some sweetness, mainly from some sugar & background fruits, mainly oranges & some pineapple with subtle hints of alcohol then some earthy hops & grassy notes at the end.
Bright, golden amber with a slight haze & a 1.5cm, foamy white head with excellent retention, it holds steady for even after I started drinking the beer.
Hops, citrus & pine hops to begin alongside the spice & yeast. Orange & some grapefruit feature & it’s well balanced with some sugar from the fruits as well. Some herbal & floral flavours come through with hints of alcohol at the end.
Almost full bodied. It’s smooth with touches of alcohol without being too boozy or hard to drink. Sweet throughout with low carbonation.
A fairly good example of a Belgian IPA with more hops than I’d anticipated. Easy to drink & the dry hopping definitely made a difference with this one. Definitely a beer worth looking out for.
