COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

Alengrin (2464) - BELGIUM - OCT 27, 2014
The first new Urthel since they are brewed at Koningshoeven and the bottle and label style changed; apparently identified here with Urthel Bock Exclusief, but I doubt this was precisely the same beer, as the latter mentioned 7% ABV on the label and this one 7.5% ABV, apart from - admittedly subtle - differences in flavour. Anyway, this beer is a rich dubbel with a creamy but rather thin and opening, yet stable head and deep, clear burgundy colour. Aroma of dates, pear, blackcurrant, coriander, cloves, medium dry sherry, brown sugar, ’speculoos’, pepper, honey. Candied fruits in the mouth, sweet but not in a sugary or cloying way, drying coriander, pleasant finish with soft herbal hops and some warming alcohol. Well balanced and very enjoyable, like most Urthels.

Crossover between a Belgian dubbel and a Dutch bock beer. Result is a very yeasty bock, with a thicker body than usual. Has some dried fruit and spices. Good one.

Bottle at home, 330 ml into a snifter, ABV 7.5% Dark mahogany brown colour on a clear body, which almost two fingers of tan head, good retention. Light lacing on the glass. Aroma of grapes, wood, cork, vinous notes, light alcohol, malts, chocolate. Taste of wood, red old wine, red fruits, hint of caramel and alcohol, just a tad sweet and then turns to a light bitter on the aftertaste. Medium thin body, kind of low on the carbonation.
