Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

26th June 2008. Clear brown beer. Fairly stock malty flavours, no bitterness to speak of. Just a slight sour tang to seperate it from the crowd.

330ml Bottle: Aroma of malts, dark ripe fruits, light toasted caramel, Belgian yeast, figs, slight toffee, and hints of brown sugar and molasses. Poured very deep amber/copper in color with a medium-sized, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of malts, dark ripe fruits, figs, slight raisins, Belgian yeast, and light toasted caramel. Medium body. Tingly, slightly dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Malt, dark ripe fruit, Belgian yeast, and slight toasted caramel finish is slightly dry.

Bottle at ’In De Wildemaan’, Amsterdam, 28-10-09 Pours dark brown with a light beige head. The aroma as Loz pointed out is pear drops and barley sugar. Taste is barley sugar, dark malt, some candi floss and a touch of marzipan, touch sweet shop possibly but still its most enjoyable. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Very earthy aroma - much like chocolate, fresh soil (the good smelling soil) and sweetness. Notes of earth, coffee, and cola in this one.

A little surprised that this is labelled a Dubbel Pours a dark amber-ruby with a medium creamy tan head Aroma is soft sweet malts, earthy caramel and some hazelnut tones. Flavour is rich caramel maltiness, some nuttiness as well. The hoppiness comes through towards the finish with an herbal bitterness that blends well with the light coffee tones of the malt.

Ruby Red with a great aroma. Flavor is very flowery but also has the bocklike smoothness.

12 oz bottle (marked as a Vlaemse Bock) served in a clear pint glass. Poured a muddy, deep brown with 5 fingers of thick, slowly dissipating, wet head. Nose is malts, earth, barley, cellar, and light caramel. Taste is very similar, but there is a lingering must on the pallet. This is a very delicious brew. It seems the more Bocks that I have, the more I realize just how much I enjoy this beer style.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 330 ml bottle - pours a dark brown with a thick fluffy off-white head. Sweet, nutty aroma. Flavor has hints of chocolate, some nuts, a bit of toffee and a back end of bitter coffee. Good overall roasted flavor with a thick mouthfeel. Above average.
