Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock's very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

Pour is a hazy brown with a very large tan head. Aroma is nice with some strong caramel with a dark fruit and candi sugar combo. Flavor is also in the decent category. Some molasses show up again along with the candi sugar. One distraction is the alcohol is there in a big way. Still an above average beer.

It’s a dark red brown beer with a creamy large thick beige head. It slowly dissapears. It has a malty, fruit and a little spicy aroma. A malty tast, with some notes of fruit, like blackberries. It’s a little sweet. A nice beer to drink with friends.

Bottle at the second Doubletree tasting, provided by Zinister. Thanks! Pours a deep, tree sap amber with nice lacing around the glass. Aroma is doo doo mixed with Houston Municipal Sewer Water, vegetable (particularly celery), and earth. Flavor is raisin, pear, and sugar that provides a lingering sweetness. Average mouthfeel. Much better as it warms.

Mar. 2007 - Dark amber pour, little head or lacing. Weird butterscotch "off" flavor. Flavor was dark fruits but the odd butterscotchy off flavor was distracting and unpleasant.

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Quaffs, thanks to Reakt.
Semi hazy very dark brown with a pretty impressive beige head. Rich chocolate malt aroma with some dried fruit and a nice earthy character. More chocolate stuff in the flavour with a nice warmth from the alcohol. Burnt malt followed with some very slight hoppage that balances it out pretty nicely. Lingering tang at the sides of the palate gives it a slight vegetal note but not in a bad way. Not brimming with complexity but an enjoyable and intersting brew.

Dark red-amber beer with a creamy beige head. Neutral aroma. Nice flavours: caramel, coffee, burned malts and a hardly noticable sweetness at the end with some nice hopps as well.

bottle poured at 1/28 Houston Tasting. Pours a cloudy, copper-brown color with a tan head. Smell was of dark fruit. Taste was of a Belgian - plums, sweet raisins, a bit earthy. Mouthfeel had alcohol noticeable. This was not bad, but not complex enough.

Pours a rich dark brown colour. Aroma is quite peppery. Textures is silky and rich. Hints of caramel and liquourice come through in this very rich beer.
