Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock's very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

This was a good bock...interesting because it almost seemed to combine a Belgian style with a German Bock.

(750ml bottle, BB 15/03/08) Pours a deep burgundy body with a rocky (root beer float-like) beige head. Aroma of maple syrup, vanilla, cola, plums, and figs. Flavor of raisins, maple syrup, anise, figs, toffee, wood, brown sugar, and toasted malt. A very nice dubbel.

A spectactular brown tone with a beige creamy head. Flavors of roasted malt and a persistent chocolate, with very slight bitterness. Smooth and delicious- didn’t taste the metallic

bottled. Amazing dark amber color with a nice and persistent beige foamy. Aroma is not too exressive, but have notes of Roasted malt, chocolate and toffee. Flavor is bitter with notes of chocolate and roasted malt as well. Mouthfeel is sweety, stay a bitter chocolate in mouth. Great!

Bottle. [thank you, skortila!]
Pours a deep red mahogany with a large foamy beige head. Aroma is fruity, with strawberries mixing in with caramel, toffee, raisins. Nice high carbonation. Flavour is surprisingly ’dark’, with chocolate dominating. There is some tones of dried, dark fruits as well, but the chocolate really stands out. Ver dry finish with chocolate and slight hoppiness. Some nuts and very powerful roasted caramel. Quite warming, but there is not much viniousness. But there is an unwanted metallic side to it that it just will not let go of.

Deep dark amber body, thick creamy beige head; Quite big very yeasty aroma, BBF 2010 but it already seems a bit old; Huge carbonation and quite a bit of fill in slightly metallic body; Medium long bitter dry finish, dark sugary warm aromas and some yeast.

Clear, dark cranberry-brown body. There’s a massive, billowing, cream colored head that shows excellent retention. Tons of random lace splotches cover the glass. The aroma shows heavy molasses up front, with figs, caramel, root beer, honey and dark raisons. The scent is very malty, with just a touch of floral hops. The flavor is based on sweet, malty caramel, with cream, an array of dark fruits, honey, flowers, and even a hint of hazelnuts. The mouthfeel is intensely lively, and probably overly so. Medium bodied. The sweet and slightly sour finish was moderate in duration. Pretty solid brew.
