scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Sep 7, 2007 Dark hazed brown, large foamy khaki colored head with perfect lace left behind. Complex nose of warm toasty raisin bread, tangy brown sugar, and ripe plum that overlay a soft tea and tobacco tone. Dark fruit flavors softly mix with roasted caramel malt and a touch of hop bitterness. Malt forward here without a doubt. Medium bodied with a moderaate carbonation from start to finish. A nice blend of bock and abbey dubbel characteristics that worked well... legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Sep 6, 2007 A very lovely bock. We really don’t get many good bocks, so this was a nice change. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 5, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Unified berries and caramel maltiness elegantly build this creamy, lavish mouthfeel where diplomatic roastiness and minutious herbal hops linger. This is a wonderful Belgian interpretation of the Dunkler Bock style.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam garnishes the clear burgundy.
-The chosen Belgian yeast with the omnipresent Munich maltiness characteristic of bocks is a soulful meeting.
-Alcohol warms the back of the palate.
-Professional and classy, flavorful and drinkable, this is a fine example of the brewer’s talent.
Bottle, as Vlaemse Bock. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Sep 5, 2007 A lot of substance in this beer, it takes a much need bock and gives it a spike of roasted, toasted goodness. Its a real warmer to the palate. a special treat. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 5, 2007 The aroma is sweet and toasted with yeast, dark fruit, and brown sugar. The appearance is impressive with a gigantic head and dark brown color. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall it’s good but it lacks that certain something. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Oct 21, 2007Name: Urthel Bock

dark muddy brown, thin tan head, big rich earthy malt aroma, rich dry malt flavor with only a hint of sweetness, not a lot of depth, too dry for a bock

HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2007 Bottle (330ml). Deep refractive chestnut red with a large frothy beige lating head, thick lacing drapes. Rich dark sweet malt aroma, molasses, raisins, figs, light chocolate, dry yeast, winter spices, alcohol. The flavour follows right on, quite warming, sweet, spicy and dark, even some tart cherry inj there too. Average body, very slick and lively, spicy yeast and alcohol bitterness balances out the sweet malt nicely, medium long linger but no aftertaste. Got a nice little buzz off it. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 13, 2007 330ml bottle. Hazy murky brown with ruby highlights. Dissipating finger width of beige head. Sweet cinnamon nose. Candy sugar. Full bodied and sweet, with a nice sporatic citrus bitterness slashing through the middle. Caramel malts and quite bright. Clinging head and notes of dates and cloves. Spicy splashes. Sweet syrupy to 7Up to tart red fruit and sweet breads. Not the fullest double I’ve ever had, but that doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of this brew at all. Nice balance. Not quite rounded, but definitely melded flavors. I really love randomly rating beers after vyvvy (see below). Typical striking contrasts! Cheers John!
