vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 12, 2007 Pours dark tawny brown with a nice pillowy light tan head. The aroma has dark grain, yeast, breadiness, brown sugar and toasted malt. Medium / full body that starts soft then gets thinner and a bit abrasive with fairly harsh sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with dark bread and molasses, roasted malt and cola-like flavor. Then some maple syrup followed by medicinal astringency. The last lingering part has brown sugar and a citrusy sharpness. Overall it is an odd beer that I’m not sure if I like or not. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Aug 10, 2007 Bottle. Fairly weak aroma of toffee, oak and yeast. Pours a rich cloudy brown with a huge off-white head. Roasted malt, dry white oak, and an odd sourness on the palate. Medium to full bodied with decent carbonation. cathcacr (585), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 8, 2007 Probably the best single-bock I’ve had. The appearance is one of deep ruby with an aggressive head that does its Arrogant Bastard receptacle -- a very modestly priced receptacle in which to transmit this beverage’s final mortal remains -- proud. This beer actually hits the spot in a way few beers do, without having to be all complex and sophisticated and stuff. I’d drink this shit till the cows come home. The only weak spot is the lack of aroma. Gotta pump up some subjective areas to compensate, ’cause aroma is only so important.. Good night, sweet prince.
SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Aug 5, 2007 Bottle: Poured a dark brown with reddish hint, the head is a foamy beige color. The aroma is sweet hoppy fruit. Taste is a hoppy roasted malt with suttle taffee black currant finish. pilsnerrogge (1769), Finspång, Sweden Aug 5, 2007 bottle, Urthel Vlaemse Bock Ruby red with a large, thick head. Smooth, round toffee and black currant aroma. Quite sweet and malty with a warning alcohol and black currant flavour. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Aug 2, 2007 7/12/2007: Urthel Vlaemse Bock smells wonderful. The aroma contans lots of sweet almond, rich malt, and even a little reminiscent of sweet honey mead. This beer is clear, dark brown in color with a dense, creamy tan head that leaves nice lacing effects. The flavor is strong, sweet, malty, and rich with some almond and alcohol. This beer has a medium-full body and is quite smooth. This is a really good Abbey Dubbel/Bock beer with charactistics of both styles coming through in the overall presentation.
11.2 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 7.5% by Vol. / D8CF 13:28) from Tmoney99. Thank you Tom. I appreciate it! Rating #145 for this beer...
EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Aug 1, 2007 Bottle. Rich toffee malt aroma with a touch of alcohol and dusty caramel and brown sugar. Sweet. Ruby pour with a beautiful creamy, lacy, rocky tanned head. Yes, pillowy head forms lots of really interesting shapes if left to sit. Bitter taste with flashes of fruity sweetness, dark and malty with a prominent alcohol component. Faint sourish wood notes. Slicky full body, dry cherry-ish aftertaste. Nothing earth-shattering here, just a crafted, flavorful ale. Well balanced and very pleasant! badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jul 30, 2007 superb..pours dark brown with medium beige head...aroma is massive in raison, prune, fig, and brown sugar (huge in sugar, mild in spice, and little yeast adding to the nose)..flavor is also dominated by such malts (brown sugar, raison, toast, and maple syrup)...hints of cherry just before the alcohol-touched finish...well done!
