COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

New Beer Distributors, NY 750ml ($5.75): Pours a mahogany with a small head. It is a bit flat, which leads me to believe that this might be a bit on the olde side. Aroma is caramel, hops, and light fruitiness. Taste is sweet and bitter. Some mildly sugary aftertaste. I am sure that a fresher bottle would be better, but this ain’t that great in the form that it be at now.

Bottle. Pours a deep nut brown clear body with a small off-white head. Aroma is phenolic raisins and dark fruit tones, grape peel, wet paper and hints of paint thinner. Weird, and not too good. Taste is raisins, slight phenolic touches, dry wood-like tones, alcohol and deep malts. Medium body and carbonation. OK, but not great.

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu. Rated on 23.05.2010
Aroma is malty with raisins and brown sugar. Flavour has ripe fruits, lots of malt, caramel and raisins. Not a bock in any way, more like a dubbel. But a good one!
