tjthresh (1748), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Oct 1, 2006 On tap at the Falling Rock. Garnet w/ a creamy tan head. Left some good lace behind. Chewy currant and chocolate overed caramels with a touch of hops in the nose. Very nice rich malt flavor. A bit of cooked cherries with light spice. Med/full body. Well carbonated. Dryer finish. Very good. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Sep 29, 2006 Strong, malty, slightly alcoholic aroma. Sweet honey and figs are also in the aroma - it leads me to believe it is very complex. The flavor is pretty good overall too. Smooth and enjoyable bock. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 29, 2006 A nice belgian-inspired bock (or bock-inspired belgian) - bright, fire-red color, with thick, off-white lace - aroma of caramelized brown sugar, bread yeast, cherries and light winter spices - soft carbonation, medium bodied - a little tangy up front, with light fruity esters - a nice mingling of malts creates a flavor much like dark chocolate covered caramels - warming alcohol and light spices in the finish - not really a true bock, but who cares? hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2006 Bottle... Clear mahogany lager with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Good retention. Brown sugar, light molasses and fig aroma. Malty, medium sweet flavor also rings a hefty note of tanginess and soft bitterness. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. Short, crisp finish. Dopplebock1538 (71), Sanatoga, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 19, 2006 Wow. Last one i tasted out of my sampler case, but it will be the first one i rate. I was that impressed. Smooth, crisp
and light. Very little to no carbonation(i hate carbonation) Rock solid BOCK! unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Sep 18, 2006 Had this bottle at the BrickStore. Flamey dark ale. Brown fizzy beer. creamy head. tastes like Dr. Pepper!!!! Awesome beer. I recommend it. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Sep 13, 2006 bottle. a ruby/brown pour with great clarity. thin bubbled head. nice lacing. mild aroma of black cherries, sugar, yeast and musk. roasted malts, cherry, hops and earthy/vegetable taste. light bodied. carbonation is too fizzy and hides the taste. dry finish. I was expecting more. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Aug 25, 2006 750 ML bottle: Chestnut brown w/ a lasting light beige head. Toasty, figish, and lighlty yeasty come to my mind upon the first whiff. Also lightly floral w/ hints of woody aromas possibly from the cork. Mildly pepper spiced yeast with very little fruity ester except for the light fig notes. Some bready malt comes through as it warms. Well balanced overall, finishes dry and lightly tart. Some sugary sweetness between toasty and bready malts, very little fruitiness in the flavor, but mostly up front. Light raisiny notes, but mostly clean of fruitiness. More toasty malt as it warms, it’s even clean of most of the spicy yeast notes in the aroma. Short lived, lightly roasty aftertaste. Highly carbonated, lighter body due to carbonation level, and well hidden alcohol. Another solid beer from Van Steenberge.
