Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

bottle. a ruby/brown pour with great clarity. thin bubbled head. nice lacing. mild aroma of black cherries, sugar, yeast and musk. roasted malts, cherry, hops and earthy/vegetable taste. light bodied. carbonation is too fizzy and hides the taste. dry finish. I was expecting more.

750 ML bottle: Chestnut brown w/ a lasting light beige head. Toasty, figish, and lighlty yeasty come to my mind upon the first whiff. Also lightly floral w/ hints of woody aromas possibly from the cork. Mildly pepper spiced yeast with very little fruity ester except for the light fig notes. Some bready malt comes through as it warms. Well balanced overall, finishes dry and lightly tart. Some sugary sweetness between toasty and bready malts, very little fruitiness in the flavor, but mostly up front. Light raisiny notes, but mostly clean of fruitiness. More toasty malt as it warms, it’s even clean of most of the spicy yeast notes in the aroma. Short lived, lightly roasty aftertaste. Highly carbonated, lighter body due to carbonation level, and well hidden alcohol. Another solid beer from Van Steenberge.

Pours a dark brown with an off white creamy head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, caramel malt, yeast and an overall sweet maltiness. Flavor was very fruity, mostly dark fruits, Belgian yeast, sweat and malty. Overalll a very malty Bock with Belgian yeast....interesting.

Bottle. Reddish dark brown colour with a fizzy head. Malty aroma of caramel and hints of yeast and spices. Alcoholic flavour with notes of maltness and little roastedness too.

750 ml thanks to jimmack at mels gathering. Pours a ruby medium amber, clear and a nice lasting head. Aroma has quite a bit of diacetyl which covers up most of the underlying sweetness. Flavor is sweet, sugary, light molasses, toasty malts, more butter, kind of one-dimensional.

750ml. bottle shared at Madness With The Moose. Clear mahogany color with a medium sized beige head. Quite buttery, diacetyl aroma with some brown sugar and nuts. Flavor wasn’t as bad as expected, given the aroma and my distaste of diacetyl. Still somewhat buttery, but not as much as the aroma. Light nuttiness and some caramel malt round out the flavors.

Bottle from State Line. Medium brown pour with 1-finger khaki head. Aroma of caramel malt, cacao, funky yeast, tobacco, and sweaty female ass crack. The flavor was caramel malty, brown sugary, with some nutty and funky yeasty finishing notes.

(Bottle 33 cl) Clear, orangey brown with a creamy, off-white head. Roasted malty nose. Medium to full body with a rather solid malt profile. Sweet, roasted malts basically without bitterness. A fairly solid Bock. 060706
