Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

At a tasting, thanks, small stable beige creamy head, murky and a little light brown colur, aroma of congac, dried frits, with some oxidised notes and a touch of chocolate, flavourof dark chocolate, baba au rhum, and some cherries. Good and quite complex but a bit too heavy.

Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks Hansen & Zita for this bottle! As Urthel Vlaamse Bock. Nice brown color with a beige-brown head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, caramel, a bit of nuts, dark fruits notes and light oxidized notes. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, some chocolate, dark fruits and a bit of sherry notes. Medium-bodied.

11.2oz bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours dark brown with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of spicy yeast, caramel malts, some floral hops, and hints of fruits. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty good dubbel.

Pours a dark root beer brown with a aggressive golden tan head which dissipated quickly. Slight lacing was noted. The nose was malty with notes of dark fruit. The taste was roasted malt, prunes, raisins and hints of coffee with a pleasing bitter aftertaste. An enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Brown 33cl bottle, best before 06/2010, drank 02/2010. Poured into a ’Corsendonk’ stemmed tulip glass. The whole bottle was poured into the glass, so a hazy, misty body of a dirty red/deep brown beer stared back at me as I stared at it. On top sat a light tan coloured head, thick and creamy looking. The roasted malt smells hit my nose before it got to the glass. Shotrbread biscuits with caramel and chocolte on top (known as Millionaires shortbread in some parts) is how the aromas sorted themselves out during the tasting and as the beer warmed; add extra maltiness to that statement. The taste was warming a sweetish, the molasses in the malts showing their true flavours. When I think of this style it includes Chimay Blue, 3 Pistols and Gulden Draak, this beer stands up with those no problem. Sweet, but not overly so, rich and full bodied it is, warming as already mentioned, this is a cold evening nightcap sort of beer. Luckily it is very cold tonight, also luckily, it is still early and my nightcap will be a lot later!

300312: ugly gnome with a proper nose is apparently the brewery trademark. it starts bad. Minni volcano opening. smells of carbonated and dark malt. overkarboneret, burnt acidity. otherwise ok creamy roasted flavor.

Bottle. Dark caramel color, small amount of head and nice lacing. Scent of caramel malt, yeast, honey, and a hint of sour cherries. Taste is malty, delicately sour, woody, and creamy, with some alcohol on the finish. Well rounded beer with a fruity character that lingers in the mouth.
