Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock's very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

Sampled at the Alexi TN distributor’s tasting; thanks Jim Bird! Clear reddish pour. Sweet earthy, peaty, malt nose. Tart flemish sour flavor was not all that great. Unusual. Is this supposed to be sour? Didn’t really care for it.

Dark ruby red colored with medium sized light brown head. Rich raisinny sweet aroma with licorice and some grains. Medium bodied, crispy palate. Flavor is also nice with more roasted tone, sweet licorice still here with some bready tone. Aftertaste turns to vinous with licorice, mild alcohol and nice yeast. Excellent dubbel.

Vlaemse Bock. Pours amber into a stem glass. Off-white head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Dark pit fruit aromas. Dusty malts and rum-soaked raisins and prunes. Lasting sour and sour prune finish.

Nothing wonderful. Some fruit notes, or as lilbeerdoctor said 8 billion times it had a lot of raisin flavor haha. Sweets.

Bottle. Aroma of an earthy yeastiness, almost sandy, raisin, cherry, honey, sweet malt. Flavor overpoweringly sweet and dusty/musty. Not a favorite.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet raisin and sweet malt. Flavor is quite malty with some yeasty notes but overall very sweet and raisiny. Some prunes too. This was not very good...way too sweet. Old? Maybe, but I can’t tell for sure. 6/4/5/3/12 (3.0/5)

Bottle. Pours a very cloudy dark amber with a medium creamy light tan head leaving behind good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a spicy malt with nuts and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with a roasted malt taste with caramel and a nice spicy finish. A good abbey dubbel from urthel.
