WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 18, 2009 Nice enough. Dark reddish brown slightly hazy, small dark head. Nose of dark roasted malts. Flavor of dark roasted malts with little discernible hopping. I always get notes of chocolate and coffee from dark roasted malts, and this is no exception. A kid brother of a German double like a Celebrator, easy to drink, enjoyable but unremarkable. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Mar 17, 2009 Bottle from the Bottle Barn, Santa Rosa. Brown with a fluffy tan head. Malty bready aroma with some citrus notes. Bread and mild grain dominate the taste with some tangy notes through out. Decent. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Mar 10, 2009 Bottle @ Publick House, Brookline, MA. Pours a reddish-amber with a light, tan head. Aroma is phenolic with caramel malt and dark fruit detectable as well. Taste is caramel malt and sweet notes with dark fruit characteristics at the end. Beer is relatively smooth, and not bad overall. Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Feb 28, 2009 I must have gotten a bad batch or a leaky bottle, because mine poured dark with absolutely zero head or carbonation. THe bockish notes were there, but this wasn’t a cask ale so it was pretty much shit, to put it nicely. A couple of sips then threw it out. yespr (11649), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 26, 2009 Updated: Feb 27, 200933 cL bottle at ’t Arendsnest. Pours clear and golden deep amber to redish with a slowly collapsing light tan head. Phenolic and dry to roasted malt aroma. Slight oxidised impression. Dry, roasted malt and slight metallic to oxidised touch. Light yeasty note too. Subdued yeasty and fruity note. boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Feb 18, 2009 750ml bottle: Mine poured a caramel-amber color. It was fairly clear and had a small tan head on it. This has a very nice aroma. Lots of caramel malt, raisins, other fruits. The taste is a bit of a surprise. There is a bit of a bitterness to it. There is an underlying sweetness also. Some earthy and pine notes to the taste. Also there is caramel, some fruits and a bit of roastiness to the finish. Very Nice! RichardGretton (3131), Leicestershire, England Feb 7, 2009 Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is rich, spirity and malty, and the flavour is rich, deeply roasted and malty with a very bitter finish. Overall a nice roasted and malty beer. ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Jan 26, 2009 Rich, complex and malty ale. Notes of toffee, chocolate, caramel and prunes and figs in the nose. Rich, thick mouthfeel, but not quite bock level. Still attains bock level melanoidian complexity, and has additional notes of raisin, earth and tobacco in the flavor. Finish is sweet, but slight bitterness and has a noble, earthy and piney hop character.
