Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock's very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Kaisla, Helsinki, on 2008-10-17) Dark brown. Almost clear. Medium sized white quite quickly disappearing head. Malty and a bit sour nose. Full bodied palate with lot of carbonation. Malts, chocolate, bitterness and some sourness in taste. A bit sour and bitter aftertaste. I wonder whether this bottle was contaminated somhow because there was this clear sour flavour.

Sample from Durham WBF. Clear brown pour with a light tan head. Sweet malty, but also notes of dirt and cardboard (oxidation?). Spice and metal. I’m making this sound worse than it was. It was decent, but I think something was wrong with the one I tried.

No início do gole, doçura moderada. No final, amargor moderado e algo adocicado.

750ml bottle, dark amber-brown color, with a fluffy beige head, toasty, biscuity malt nose, with some chocolatey, fruity, dried raisin, date, plum accents, with a nice Graham cookie note in the aroma follows through om a medium-bodied palate with a sweet toasty, caramelized malt and chocolatey character, with some kind of brown sugar frosted grainy mini-wheat cereal flavors, with some fruity raisiny, datey, chocolatey, dark molasses accents, with a hints of graham cookies and black coffee, within warmth mouthfeel, leading towards amalty, chociolatey, lingering hop bitterness finish.
