Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Pours dark reddish brown with big beige head. Aromas are powerful- lots of raisin and prune, with molasses and honey. Tons of fruity esters- banana, raspberry, and apricot. Some clove, ginger, and nuttiness in there as well. Flavor is very sweet at first, with lots of dark fruit and brown sugar. Then turns slightly acidic with a sharp sense to it. Palate isn’t completely full- some smooth texture subsiding into some prickly and almost sharp acidity. Finish is quite dry. A decent offering, but nothing fantastic.

330 ml. Hazy copper-chestnut with a large, creamy and lasting head. Aroma is sweet corn, slight dark fruit, wood. Flavor is wooden apple, dark fruit, slight cinnamon, bubblegum, and molasses. Near-medium body is dry, tingly and warm with alcohol, and at times a bit too fizzy.

11.2 OZ Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano, TX. Pours a cloudy brown/orange with beige head that appears to be lacing the glass....Aroma has a nice yeasty character, kinda a mix between orange and caramel malt with slight roastiness..Flavor has fruit notes along with a sweet malt taste. Med. Carbonation with full body....I like this stuff!!!!!!!

Bomber. Poured a dark mahogany with a large coffee/cream head. Some wine characteristics in the nose, but mostly sweet malt. Flavor is surprisingly light for a dubbel, leaning on towards the fruity and sweet side. Really pleasing and easy to drink.

pours a hazy reddish orange brown color with a small light brown head that shrinks quickly. Nose is booze, red wine, a bit of soy sauce that is somewhat salty. Taste is cherries, booze, and is pretty acidic. Not bad but misses on quite a few levels.

Bottle at The Rake, Borough Market. Very deep red/brown with thick beige head. Belgian yeast aroma. Lots of candy sugar. Bit of choc, bit of unsubtle unintegrated flavours. I should have had something else.
