Bottle. Rich toffee malt aroma with a touch of alcohol and dusty caramel and brown sugar. Sweet. Ruby pour with a beautiful creamy, lacy, rocky tanned head. Yes, pillowy head forms lots of really interesting shapes if left to sit. Bitter taste with flashes of fruity sweetness, dark and malty with a prominent alcohol component. Faint sourish wood notes. Slicky full body, dry cherry-ish aftertaste. Nothing earth-shattering here, just a crafted, flavorful ale. Well balanced and very pleasant!

7/12/2007: Urthel Vlaemse Bock smells wonderful. The aroma contans lots of sweet almond, rich malt, and even a little reminiscent of sweet honey mead. This beer is clear, dark brown in color with a dense, creamy tan head that leaves nice lacing effects. The flavor is strong, sweet, malty, and rich with some almond and alcohol. This beer has a medium-full body and is quite smooth. This is a really good Abbey Dubbel/Bock beer with charactistics of both styles coming through in the overall presentation.

11.2 fl. oz. bottle (Alc. 7.5% by Vol. / D8CF 13:28) from Tmoney99. Thank you Tom. I appreciate it! Rating #145 for this beer...

Dark red-amber beer with a creamy beige head. Neutral aroma. Nice flavours: caramel, coffee, burned malts and a hardly noticable sweetness at the end with some nice hopps as well.

Bottle. Sweet nose, some acidity. Light chocolate notes with a touch of grape and cherry. Deep ruby-brown with very thin brown head. Flavor is sweet, lots of chocolate and some oak. Well balanced. Sharp palate smooths out leaving some sweetness in the finish.

Poured a dark ruby red almost brown with a white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, fruit, and alcohol. Taste was much of the same. Very sweet.

bottled. Amazing dark amber color with a nice and persistent beige foamy. Aroma is not too exressive, but have notes of Roasted malt, chocolate and toffee. Flavor is bitter with notes of chocolate and roasted malt as well. Mouthfeel is sweety, stay a bitter chocolate in mouth. Great!

Bottle. The description on the label as a "flamy dark ale" is definitely accurate. Rich, smoky dark malt flavors back up the dark and crimson pour. Very interesting, very tasty, and not at all like other Abbey dubbels I have tasted. I will definitely try others from Urthel based on this one.

Pours dark reddish brown with big beige head. Aromas are powerful- lots of raisin and prune, with molasses and honey. Tons of fruity esters- banana, raspberry, and apricot. Some clove, ginger, and nuttiness in there as well. Flavor is very sweet at first, with lots of dark fruit and brown sugar. Then turns slightly acidic with a sharp sense to it. Palate isn’t completely full- some smooth texture subsiding into some prickly and almost sharp acidity. Finish is quite dry. A decent offering, but nothing fantastic.
