COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

Pours a very cloudy, deep and dark amber color with a thick head. Aroma is full of dried fruits, bourbon, and malt. Flavor is of dried fruit, plums, raisins, and port wine. I tried my best to describe the flavor, it’s kind of difficult to give a clear sense of what this tastes like. It leaves a dried fruit aftertaste. I’m impressed with this one.

Bottle. Pours a deep nut brown clear body with a small off-white head. Aroma is phenolic raisins and dark fruit tones, grape peel, wet paper and hints of paint thinner. Weird, and not too good. Taste is raisins, slight phenolic touches, dry wood-like tones, alcohol and deep malts. Medium body and carbonation. OK, but not great.

Malty and slightly sickly sweetish aroma, notes of molasses, oak and dark dried fruits. Rich malty flavour, sweet but not extreme, notes of caramel, molasses and brown kandij sugar. Minimal hops.

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu. Rated on 23.05.2010
Aroma is malty with raisins and brown sugar. Flavour has ripe fruits, lots of malt, caramel and raisins. Not a bock in any way, more like a dubbel. But a good one!

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottle code K17A7. Pours very cloudy dark reddish brown color with a very nice 2-3 finger dense khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of raisin, prune, toast, biscuit, caramel, molasses, nuttiness, and earth. Pretty nice aromas with good balance and weak strength. Taste of big caramel, toast, biscuit, raisin, nuttiness, toffee, molasses, prune, herbal, and earth. Lingering notes of raisin, caramel, biscuit, toast, nuttiness, molasses, and herbal on the finish for a good. Fantastic balance of flavors with nice complexity and robustness. No cloying flavors at all after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong dark ale! Great robust and balance flavors; and very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyed this.
