UPDATED: MAR 25, 2013 33cl bottle in San Francisco at Monk’s Kettle. I love the saison style but this one’s not my favorite. I have been less than impressed by all the Urthel beers I have tried. Hazy light orange pour with white head and hoppy, citrusy, yeasty aroma.

Bottle-pours hazy lite orange with a small fluffy white head with sparse lacing. nose is mostly barnyard, spicy hops, musty basement, grainy with some touch of lemon. flavors of hoppy grains, bitter malt husks, lite floral notes, grass with lingering earthy lite barnyard/hay notes in the finish. palate is a bit lite yet crisp. Far better than i thought this beer would be. Im looking forward to having the hop-it i have in the fridge next! Decent Saison yet not really true to the style. more like a somewhat funky belgian ale.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (8335) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 5, 2013
A hazed blonde saison with a thick frothy lacing white head. In aroma, smooth and creamy fruity malt with light bananas, light lemon, herbal and nice. In mouth, a nice smooth fruity malt with light coconut notes, coriander, light orange, nice.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 SilkTork (4919) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - DEC 23, 2012
330ml brown bottle from Marseille beer shop. Spicy, yeasty, hot fermented blonde beer in the Saison style. Creamy fermentation. Texture and mouthfeel is a little light or watery - it’s soft and fades quickly, Alcohol is mainly felt in a little burn in the finish - not an attractive quality. Malt is plain biscuit. Hops are muted. The main impact is the spice and yeast notes from the hot fermentation and the wheat. There is clove, coriander and some banana - mainly from the wheat. Not the most tasty or interesting saison, but quite acceptable.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JKaranka (28) - Cardiff, WALES - DEC 11, 2012
Pours amberish with a nice thick, persistent white head. It was quite clear and gassy (a bit too much so) until I chucked the yeast at the bottom of bottle which thickened it in a nice way. Didn’t get an insane amount apart from fruit and a mix of stuff on the nose, but as of taste, oh my. That’s when this thing gets into it’s nature, starts as coriander and sweet malts, then goes through a crazy explosion of yeast and malts and bubblegum and some hops. The flavour carries on in that Belgian mish-mash and dies into some sort of peppery long finish. It is pretty drinkable, I’d call it a session ale after all.

Light golden colour with small white head. It’s something between Heffeweizen and Tripel, contains the best of each kind. Simply wonderful, so soft, so nice...really pleasant.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BlackHaddock (2440) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - NOV 26, 2012
33cl bottle taken at the 2012 Diester Bierfestival (20 Oct): this was my first beer of the day.
Good golden colour, slight haze but not enough to spoil the view: the white crown went on to produce some good lacing on my glass.
Strange mix of smells: spices, herbs, fruit and nuts all rolled up in a bag of yeast.
The taste was also a plethora of flavours: herbs and spices leading the way with the yeast and fruity nut tastes not far behind. Corriander, cloves and exotic fruits like passionfruit and vanilla pods coming through but with some dirt still on them all to give the beer an earthy/ground feel throughout the whole thing. Really enjoyed it.
