Tan with small off white head with good retention. Nose is inviting mix of malt, yeast, dark fruits, caramel and a twang of booze. Mouth is a bit unsettling as its sharp booze up front slowly washed by caramel. This one certainly does not live up to the nose.

Pours medium brown, medium disappearing head, with aroma of sweet plumbs and raisins. Flavor is also of sweet fruits, fairly typical for the style, with moderate depth and complexity. Finishes sweet, and lingers a bit on the palate which is nice. Very balanced, with no strange flavor anywhere. The only criticism I would have is that within this style this beer comes across more like a dubbel perhaps, rather than a quad or abt, but maybe this is not much of a mark against a good beer. I could see cellaring a few, though I probably would not stock up. A nice beer, very easy to drink a bottle of this, and probably a favorite among Belgians dubels, even though this is supposed to be a quad.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Joakgust (461) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 2, 2012
Bottle, 33cl - Amber red beer with a small head. Aroma is malty with fruity notes of raisins, black cherries, maple syrup, honey and chocolate. Flavor is malty with notes of mead, black cherries, caramel and dates. Have stored this for a while and from being very alcoholic it is now insanely full bodied semi mead. Great stuff!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackHaddock (1697) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 17, 2012
There are certain things in life that shouldn’t be rushed: choosing your wife, buying a house, or drinking a Belgian Quadrupel.
This one came in a 33cl brown bottle. I poured it slowly (in Aug 2010) into my Westmalle chalice and allowed it to settle, I had too because the bottle brought up all the sediment as I poured it.
The beer was a reddy brown colour, the tanned head soon receded to a weak collar and a wispy covering. The floating grist refused to calm down, so I prepared my food pairing: Organic Cheshire Cheese and Black Olive Biscuits, accompanied with Hazelnuts. The food element wasn’t touched until my review findings were complete, but with the sediment messing me around it took some will power not to attack the cheese before I had my first sip.
The aroma being given off was treacle and molasses, a rich fairground toffee apple sort of affair.
Once the beer began to settle correctly I began sampling its delights: very sweet upfront, like the smell, all treacle tart and no custard. The alcohol content reared its head within the mouthfeel but the expected hop bitterness didn’t meterialise at all. The beer is a fireside, pull up an armchair sort of brew. Luckily the weather in Shropshire today is foul, wet, windy and very un-August like, so it fitted the bill ideally.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (761) - Michigan, USA - APR 14, 2012
11.2 ounce bottle into chalice; bottle code K08E8. Pours super clody reddish brown color with a small 1 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing on the glass; with a decent amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big molasses, caramel, dark candi sugar, pepper, fig, raisin, toffee, and light yeast spices. Big malty aromas here with a good amount of complexity. Taste of big caramel, toffee, molasses, raisin, prune, dark candi sugar, pepper, roasted nut, biscuit, and light yeast spices. Lingering notes of molasses, caramel, toffee, dark fruit, and roasted nut on the finish for a while. Great flavor balance with no cloying sweetness at all. Medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very creamy and slick mouthfeel that is fantastic. Very smooth to drink but is still definitely a sipper. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is an outstanding quad. Big flavor, complexity, and balance. Very smooth and highly enjoyable to sip on.
