3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FreshHawk (596) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - NOV 21, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle.
A - Deeper tawny, tangerine color with an average sized, foamy, off-white head. Average retention with just a thin layer of lace.
S - Sweet caramel and pale malt along with candi sugar sweetness. Plenty of sweet and tart golden fruit with a touch of a juicy aspect. Apricot, some apple, and touches of tropical fruit.
T - Similar to the nose. Sweet tangerine, orange, apricot, tropical fruit, and hints of sweet, ripe cherry. Sweet caramel and pale malt along with candi sugar. Some Belgian yeast as well. Alcohol is definitely present along with plenty of spice.
M - Medium body with average carbonation (maybe slightly above). Fairly smooth and warming.
D - Not too drinkable. Alcohol is a little hot and the flavors are a little off. Strong spice and a little on the sweet side for it to be too drinkable.
Notes: Strange beer and not really what I was expecting from a Quad. Seemed a bit more like a malty Tripel. Overall I wasn’t a big fan, but it wasn’t a bad beer. Probably won’t get it again, as there are a number of Quads (and Tripels for that matter) I like better for the same price.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TET (685) - FINLAND - NOV 19, 2010
Dark brown beer with medium and beige head. Aroma is full and sweet, plums, raisins, fruit kissel and some warming alcohol and hint of bananas. Flavour is strong and powerfull, raisins, some fruits, black peppers, some powerfull and warming alcohol with unfotunately also some alcohol taste. Aftertaste is quite dry with long spicyness. Enjoy warmer than recommend (> 8-10 degrees), because alcohol is too dominant when the beer is cold. Full bodied and smooth to drink. Good beer, but alcol is too dominant. However, complicated and great aroma; I recommend this beer if you can live with alcohol nuancees.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 LomYst (140) - Rotterdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 12, 2010
I’m having a bit of a cold, still i smell some dark fruit yeast and hops (probalbly some caramel in there to)... taste is as expected, dark, yeasty, some hop, dark fruit, bread good and fairly complex but not mindblowing... finish is great, there is malt and yeast, but very intense plus this bastard leaves a nice burning sensation in both troath and stomach... warming

Very tasty. And sweet. I liked the taste immediately. I would compare this to some very tasty white wines.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jaghana (1804) - Strasbourg (France), FRANCE - OCT 20, 2010
Bottle 33cl. A cloudy amber beer with medium head. Smell is spicy and malty. Aroma is amazing malty, roasted, hopy and sweet. A veru complex body, with fruit notes such as dry grapes and prune, a good quadruple beer. A good experience on of the best quadruple I had, well balanced and good dark malt notes specially at the finish, notes of licorice, anise and dark chocolate.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DeanF (1477) - Iqaluit, Nunavut, CANADA - OCT 15, 2010
Found at Bootlegger in a 330ml bottle, could be called "Quadrium" if you only read the top part of the label... so, nonetheless, this one is chilled modestly. Nice bright amber body, decent head that sticks around for awhile. Aroma is fruity malts, a modest amount of alcoho, quite appealing for such a high-alcohol drink. Taste is hops and alcohol with a syrup finish; ah, alas, they didn’t get the taste right, there’s little complexity here. Sure, it’s not so bad, but it’s not a world class quadrupel. Then again, it was pretty cheap. Maybe that makes up for it?
