Bottle. Muddy dark brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is malty and strongly roasted, and the flavour is very rich, spiced, malty and roasted. Overall a pretty good strong beer.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2010 Bottle. Did not like this the first time I had it, but now i really get this beer. Sweet and boozy with hints of vegtables and leather this beer kind of reminds me of an english barley wine. Complex and warming sipper.

This one is amber colored with a small but fluffy white head. Some plums and caramel in the aroma. Some plums, rock candy, a touch of butterscotch, cherry, and a good amount of caramel. Very sweet and slightly boozy. I can dig it.

11.2 oz bottle poured into my Westvleteren goblet. Pours a sort of ashen goldenrod color, sort of sickly to be honest. Certainly far lighter than any standard quadrupel. Creamy tan head displays great retention and leaves films of sticky lacing. Aroma is diacetyl and caramel. And that‘s it. Flavor is very similar. Old butterscotch and caramel make this a very sweet beer. There is also a whisper of dark fruitiness and alcohol. Mouthfeel is full-bodied and sticky from the sweetness. Pretty one-dimensional, and possibly suffering from a brewing flaw with all that diacetyl. Not really mindful of the style either.

Pours a clear brownish amber with a fine smallish offwhite head. The nose is fruity with some toasty astringency and alcohol. A bit of chalk, some very small amount of sweetness, no richness. Slightly boozy. Low carbonation, but not a ton of substance or body. The bit of body seems to be cut by the higher alcohol. Fruity boozy toasty astringency. Not a ton of depth or richness. Much more in the mold of a Westy 12 sort of quad, but misses that mark substantially. Hard to do that ethereal quad thing, needs a lot more body. Still chalky. Lingering chalky fruit and toast. Mediocre.

Deep cloudy orange with a finger thick white head that all too soon fades to a thin covering. Aroma is sweet, alcoholic and very candy-like with a syrupy sweet slightly fizzy taste. Not bad in its own rights but for an Abt/Quadrupel not the best.

Pours dark amber, with a heavy head.
Aroma: very roasty and earthy.
Appearance: is dark amber maybe even reddish; it’s very clear and the head is super frothy with a long lasting tan foam.
Flavor: very, very bitter and somewhat sour
Palate: lots of fizz, and the finish is long lasting.
Overall Impression: Very tasty and highly bitter; the bitterness doesn’t ruin the flavor though. Alcohol content is very high, but hidden very well. Not one of my highest rated beers; but very enjoyable and drinkable
