3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hapjydeuce (854) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 16, 2008
On tap at PP Carlsbad. Weird, this is the first quadrupel I’ve seen that is yellow-gold. Sticky white lacing, but rather thin signs of head. I’ve said it so many times now, the Port needs to step it up and use proper glassware for such beers. Big fruity clove aroma with orange and banana creme. Sweet raisin and pear flavor with little bitterness bite in the finish. Thick bodied and with a bit of alcohol burn in the throat.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 wetherel (1837) - Encinitas, California, USA - JUN 7, 2008
Tried at PP on tap. Said both 9.5% and 12% on the sign. Well, I guess that averages out to the 11@ that RB lists. Cloudy yellow amber color. Very Belgian with some banana aroma. Strong. You can notice the ABV, but it is still drinkable, I mean sippable. Lots of great lacing. Heavy body. I was expecting a dark color for a quad, but this was much lighter. Triplesque in color. Low bitterness and leans sweet. Nice.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 TaxiDriver (1372) - Stadland, GERMANY - MAY 30, 2008
Bottle. Fruity, cheese, heavy yeasty and sweat. Nearly no head at all, a dark orange cloudy body. Moderate acidic, later on it gets a little bit sweeter. The duration is medium. The body is also medium and dry with a lively carbonation.

11.2oz bottle. Pours a deep, slightly hazy amber color; fluffy light-tan head with solid retention and medium-bubbled lacing. Lots of caramel, nougat, and dried fruits in the aroma; emphasis on the basic caramel notes. Full mouthfeel: chewy, syrupy dried dark fruits, sticky caramel, and Belgian sugars; decent levels of carbonation, which helps cut through the intense sweetness and chewiness of the layered malt core; not as intricate or dense as better examples of the style, but reasonably tasty and pretty drinkable for 11%. Lengthy finish, showing plenty of caramel, dried fruits, and some nuttiness.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAY 20, 2008
750 mL bottle from Peace Street Market in Raleigh. Pours orangish red (very vibrant) with a large white head. Moderate retention and good lacing. Aroma of yeast, caramel, vanilla, stone fruits. Taste of caramel, cotton candy, yeast. Full bodied and smooth. This is good stuff, though it is relatively sweet and I fear that may get old by bottle’s end.

Bottle from O’brien’s. Pours with a cloudy amber-brown body topped by a thin to medium thick, off-white head with little lacing. It’s sweet and malty with a slight note of spice, some lemon grass and underlying fruit notes that remond me of koolaid. medium bodied, sligthly dry and smooth.
