22 oz bottle, shared by Vac. Sits in the glass a bronzey-amber, mostly clear with no head whatsoever. Aroma of rich, dark fruity malts, alcohol, spice and wood (?). More rich maltiness and spice in the flavor, overripe fruit, with big alcohol character. Full body, oily and no carbonation.

Poured a hazt dark brown color with a small flat head. Aroms was almost completley of alcohol, but with a bit of dark fruits. Taste was a little less alcohol but still alot there and some fruit and caramel.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a dark brown with a small creamy head and a not that sweet smell of caramel, malts and hop. The flavor isn´t that strong for a quadrupel, yruppy and sticky mouthfeel and a thin taste of caramel. The alcohol is very well hidden, but the flavor is just very thin, nothing like Westvleteren 12

Pours a caramel color with a 4 inch head that lasts 1.5 minutes. Smells like strong malt and alcohol. Has a syrupy mouthfeel, but taste is exceptionally smooth for the high % content. Flavor is mostly caramel malts, water, and sugar. Finish is light and has hints of dark roasted sugars.

The small bottle poured rich caramel color, clear, with a full inch of hefty tan foam. Incredible aroma of spices, fig, alcohol, caramel. It’s pretty sweet, almost winey, but there is a subtle roasted bitterness. I think the mouthfeel is right on. It’s sticky in the glass. Absolutely delicious. I love this brewery. Thanks, Hildegard!

Pours from the 750 ml a surprisingly clear amber-burgundy color propping up a solid 1/2" tight beige head. Admirable retention throughout the chalice with some spotty lacing noted. Aroma was fruity sweet with a rich nose of ripe red apple, pear, banana, toffee, brown sugar supported by fainter notes of chocolate, spices, vanilla bean and oak. Mouthfeel was full and round with just the right level of spritzy carbonation as expected for the style. The first sip seems to be a huge blast of alcohol with backs you up a bit. But as venture further you realize how deeply complex and layered this Belgian Ale is. Starts out with a gentle ripe fruity and brown sugar sweetness with background notes of caramel candy, toffee, toasted malts and spices. this gradually settles into a firm, earthy, herbal hop bitterness in the long finish. Deceptively easy to drink. Once you start sippin’ the alcohol seems to settle way into the background..

Tap @ PP Belgian Fest 08. Pours orange with a 2 finger tan head. Nose is sweet and yeasty. Taste is sweet, subtle, and yeasty. Nice and big, not as hot as I’d have guessed.

Sweet and hot. Too much alcohol flavor for me. Smells like chocolate. Looks great initially but doesn’t last. Why do all de Koninghshoeven brews have those little floating foam circles after the head dies?
