Hazy dark amber color, medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, malt, ripe fruits, spices, wood. Sweet, lightly dry taste with gently bitter finish. Medium body and average carbonation, warming alcohol touch. Quite good, enjoyed it.

Urthel Samaranth has a thin, cream-colored head, a medium brown, murky appearance, and not much lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich, sweet, candied fruits, such as fig or dates. Lots of bread, as well. Taste is of sweet bread crust, spiced bread, fruits, fruit bread, some bitterness, and brandy notes. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and Urthel Samaranth finishes between wet and dry, with a sure alcohol presence. RJT

Pours brown with a large fading head. Nose shows sweet caramel, solvent-like booze, brown sugar and treacle. Sweet and boozy flavour. More brown sugar, booze and some bready malt. A little harsh and boozy.

Rustig degusteren dus.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 11:09 K22L12 AROMA: malty caramel-like aroma with some dried fruit notes (figs). spicy alcohols are present. no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: deep amber color and a bit hazy. large dark ivory head with average retention. some lacing. TASTE: sweet malt flavour with caramel notes with faint dried grapes and fig notes. low bitterness with an almost sweet finish. PALATE: medium-full body with high carbonation without carbonic acid. smooth alcohol warmth. OVERALL: an average belgian dark strong ale with some complexity.

Bottle. That’s one creepily smiling dude on the label, I suspect it’s even more creepy when you’re wicked drunk. This guy and the St. Bernardus guy would make a good team. Hazy copper body, medium head. Aroma has mustardy hops and caramel. That’s odd. Spicy and caramelly taste that is luckily not overly sweet. But the booze is coming through though. Yet another caramelly booze fest from Belgium. However, this one has some distinguishing hoppiness.

Not my favorite quad. Appearance is the highlight- frothy head and beautiful amber color. Aroma is malty. And i detect other subtle things, maybe sour apple. Taste is malty, but also spicy and boozy with afterburn. It is 11%abv, but rougher than the better quads. A bit dry and bitter on the palate. Overall the flavor, bitterness, and aftertaste is OK but not my favorite and nothing warranting a world class rating.
