This beer will always have a special meaning to me. I shared this beer with my girlfriend on our one year anniversary while dining at the Archer Ale House in Bellingham. It pours a pretty light brown color, completely clear with a nice thick and dense white head. A big aroma of bread yeast, fruits and spices sneak into my olphactory receptors. On first sip I notice a rather warming alcohol flavor that gave way to dates, fruits, yeasts and then finishing with a nice dry mouth feel. I might have to buy some and lay it down for more anniversaries with my girlfriend.

Bottle. That’s one creepily smiling dude on the label, I suspect it’s even more creepy when you’re wicked drunk. This guy and the St. Bernardus guy would make a good team. Hazy copper body, medium head. Aroma has mustardy hops and caramel. That’s odd. Spicy and caramelly taste that is luckily not overly sweet. But the booze is coming through though. Yet another caramelly booze fest from Belgium. However, this one has some distinguishing hoppiness.

Not my favorite quad. Appearance is the highlight- frothy head and beautiful amber color. Aroma is malty. And i detect other subtle things, maybe sour apple. Taste is malty, but also spicy and boozy with afterburn. It is 11%abv, but rougher than the better quads. A bit dry and bitter on the palate. Overall the flavor, bitterness, and aftertaste is OK but not my favorite and nothing warranting a world class rating.

Bottle from Wine of Galilee in Tallinn (€ 2.75). Murky brownish amber colour. Head is big, light beige with good retention and lacing. Excellent, subtle, nuanced aroma... It’s obviously caramelly and malty, but there’s so much else going on here it’s almost mind-boggling... and yet it’s difficult to name any of these nuances. Perhaps very ripe autumn fruits, dates and figs, winter spices, red berries, but also alcohol. Taste follows the same track, but is more down-to-earth with caramel and dark fruits most dominant, and an alcoholic warmth succeeding. Full body, smooth texture, lively yet soft carbonation, warming alcoholic finish... Only a slightly too inconvenient malty dryness on the palate. Overall... an almost excellent sipper... Except that it seems to lose many of its qualities when warmer... Ten minutes ago I would’ve given it a 3.7 or even 3.8, but now... It’s still good though!

Bottle. Have had this beer many times in the past but not in the past two years (pre-La Trappe). Now having in Jan 2015. Two things strike me: 1) This is a great beer! 2) This is not quite the beer I remember. Murky amber brown pour. Nice clinging beige foam up top. Nice big complicated medium caramel flavors. Good amount of rich brown fruit as well. Dates, figs, raisins, prunes and dried strawberries. Caramel apples. Excellent Quad! - The one thing missing in the current version that I distinctly recall being in the mix a few years ago is a bit of a slight "twang". A sour element now gone. This is likely due to a new source of water at the current brewery - or else my recollection is faulty. Regardless - a really great beer!

Piana zadziwiająco spora jak na ten voltaż, szybko redukuje się do obrączki i pozostaje taka do końca, barwa miedziana, opalizująca, piwo ładnie pracuje w szkle. W aromacie pierwsze skrzypce grają rodzynki, suszone figi i daktyle. Dość słodki aromat suszonych owoców współgra z likierowo-winnym alkoholem. W smaku suszone owoce zalane miodem pitnym, słodycz kontrowana alkoholowo-przyprawową goryczką potęgowaną dość wysokim i perlistym nagazowaniem. Całość sprawia wrażenie bardzo pełnego i bogatego trunku, troszkę przypominającego barley wine (zwłaszcza w zapachu) i domowe wino głogowe (lekka alkoholowa goryczka w smaku, zwłaszcza po ogrzaniu). Dobry quarupel, niezwykle treściwy, deserowy, ciężki. Dość wysokie nagazowanie uwydatnia trochę nieułożony alkohol, warto więc leżakować to piwo choćby do końca daty przydatności do spożycia (czyli do listopada 2016 roku). Mimo to wart polecenia.

Reddish mahogany brown colour with nice and ever lasting head on top. Aroma has red berries and dried fruits but some alcohol push through which is not nice. But the taste! Well there is everything. Spicy stuff, yeast, some alcohol, caramel, sweet malts, cream and berries. Full and bold body with quite high carbonation. Nice quadrupel but the slight alcohol flavour decreases the score a bit.

330ml bottle. Slightly hazy copper color. Huge yellow-beige creamy head. Looks very nice. Sweet, caramel, strong alcohol, faint metallic notes in aroma. Massive alcohol, sweet, caramel, dry papery yeast, faint metallic in taste. Sweet and boozy. Strong alcohol in aftertaste.

Dark brown with rich creamy ivory head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee notes. Rich tatse with good roasted base, cofee and herbal notes, soft herbal bitterness in aftertaste.
