In aroma, grapefruit pulp, oxidized malt, same cave notes. In mouth, a murkey maderized malt with light honey notes. A bit of orange peels develop as beer warms up. Medium bodied. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2006 From a caged corked 750 ml. bottle with a coded bottled date on the back label, sampled at a cellar temperature in a chalice.
Poured a cloudy orange hued amber with a foamy, bubbly topped off-white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing.
Aromas of tropical fruits and apples, clove and spice, very herbal and a sweet, lightly grainy maltiness.
Good carbonation and a crisp, softly dry and tart, smooth carbonated light bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant tasting and quaffable, good drinkability, clove and musty yeast, banana and pineapple tart fruitiness, hop spicy and herbal, soft in it’s bitterness, doesn’t interfere with the malty crispness, the alcohol becomes noticeable towards the end, ends warming in the palate, and a dry yeasty, herbal and sweet malty finish.
A good strong ale from Urthel, tasty and balanced, the right of carbonation and body for the style, well worth trying.
