3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 shanekrout (7) - York, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 2, 2006 does not count
I took a shot at random at this beer and I was glad that I did! Aroma hinted at caramel and chocolate, but it did not have the big nice creamy and tan head I hope for. Not very dark either. The flavor was a little lite, but very nice. Rich and flavorful porter with sweet chocolate and caramel tones. Dropped of a little early, but a very nice beer indeed!

Disclaimer: I don’t know how a Baltic Porter differs from a regular porter - so may have to re-rate this at some time but here goes:
This was the first porter I couldn’t stand. Did not finish it. A slightly sour nose with a hint of alcohol and mint (? strange I know). Poured a clear amber color with a tall head. Very weak mouthfeel - like flavored water. Some caramel, a little citrus, and port as it warmed. Just not what I would normally look for in a porter.

Sweet with a little bitterness. Silky smooth as it goes down. Some chocolate, nut and berry tones. Well brewed porter.

Great as a fast shot. Nice dark hues of red in colour. Nice head. A bit weak for a Porter.

A very ale-like baltic porter. Brown-reddish color. Low head. Aroma only burnt notes. Flavor burnt and a little bit bitter.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Pailhead (3326) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - DEC 2, 2005
Bottle: Courtesy of Secret Santa. Very strong aroma of berries with a moderate caramel presence and a hint of chocolate. Color is very light for a porter. Pours a somewhat transparent reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Flavor is virtually all chocolate fruit (predominantly cherry, with some berries) with a hint of roasted malt in the finish. A hint of raisin in the background.
